George Gibson is our oldest living African American banjo master.

Agreed. Funny how the players who market themselves as reviving African American banjo traditions don't play like him.

I get to see George every so often. I live just down the road from him in WNC.

I'm not sure, but guessing the Moderator was referring to a post of some kind that would have been removed by BH.

Since my post has now been hijacked into something it was not, I'd really like to take it down but I'm told that it is not possible.

I'm pretty sure he markets himself as reviving Kentucky Banjo traditions. He just does research into origins of Kentucky banjo traditions, some of which derived from African American traditional music and folk heritage and some of which is not.

That's pretty much all American banjo music, isn't it? Banjo music is an amazing confluence of different traditions coming together. I love George's music and what he's written about the banjo. I think the OP was just paying homage to the master. And then we got thrown off by definitions again. Sorry if I contributed to the hijacking. I just wanted to express my admiration for George, his music and what he has written about it.
