I’m always finding new banjo music and artists. It’s really motivating for me and makes me wonder what else I’m missing out on.
I’d like to ask folks to recommend artists, bands and music that has a Clawhammer, overhand, two finger or whatever style of banjo player.
It’s okay if it’s a really old artist or band or if it’s a brand new artist or band or song. Just recommend stuff you enjoy or feel is a must listen to artist or band for a banjo player.

Only thing is I’m NOT looking for bluegrass 3 finger banjo “Scruggs”

Jody Stecher is in the midst of posting great stuff on YouTube. Tag is banjrsolo, though it’s not all banjo. Stecher is a remarkable player (and singer). Well worth your time.

Walt Koken has posted a fair amount of banjo, in duets with Clare Milliner. Maybe a third with banjo. Be aware that he uses standard C tuning, not double-C, forD tunes. Probably knows the fretboard better than anybody.

Thank you to everyone and I’m excited to checkout those recommendations I haven’t heard before.
The Highwoods String band and Fuzzy Mountain String Band stuff is great!
Frank Proffit, Doc Boggs and George Gibson are legends.
I’m a huge Clifton Hicks fan and he helped me find Nora Brown.

He's a Southern California Old-time --fiddler/clawhammerer/mandolinist, teacher, musicologist, festival organizer, festival teacher, and founder of an indie oldtime label under the Tiki Parlour moniker, putting out wonderful DVDs and recordings featuring some of the luminaries of the tradition.

Brad Kolodner is one of our DMV locals who does some really interesting stuff, mixing up traditional and contemporary/original, and also with Charm City Junction.  His tabs are for purchase, but they're pretty high quality.

Also, Jake Blount is another local out here that mixes up traditional with contemporary, plus some inventive takes on things. He fiddles, too.

I'm always a big fan of Rhiannon Giddens, solo or in her older work with the Carolina Chocolate Drops.  She's currently the Artistic Director for the Silk Road Ensemble, and I think she's simply a genius.

There’s some smaller artists that are part of the “folk punk” scene that are great, imo, especially if you enjoy vocals with your clawhammer (they often do mixes of clawhammer, 2 finger, strumming)
