(second measure) is near-as-nevermind impossible for me. No matter how I clip and file my nails on the left hand I can't seem to get them short enough. Then too the flesh on the palm of my hand kills the 1st sting when I reach for the 4th string. Is there something wrong with my hand? lol

Hopefully (I'm counting on it) all that will come but I suspect that if playing banjo were easy everyone would do it.

What  fingering are you using?   I use middle on 6th, index on 5 and either ring or pinkie on 7 according to what note comes after that.  You may need to arch your hand over the fretboard more to keep your palm off the 1st string.   You may also need to move your hand so it's more horizontal to the fretboard.    It's an awkward chord, but can be done with some experiment and experience and lots of practice, practice, practice.

The first string is never played! Instead you can play a a "normal" F chord (312 from the first to the third string). It is the same notes which may be a little esier for a beginner (even for an old-timer....)

The F chord in that measure is the same shape as the full D chord shape, but everything moved up 3 frets. That is why it is important to learn the full chord shapes. In that measure you would make the full chord shape using all 4 strings.  On the third beat you would strum strings 4,3 & 2 and on the fourth beat strum strings 3,2 & 1.  Your left hand wouldn’t move at all.
