I'm a new member, so maybe this doesn't happen often with older members, but it's happened twice for me now. I write out a long response to someone and click "Post Reply", and get notified my account has temporarily been banned from posting in order to prevent spam. Spam bots are definitely needed, but in the case that it's a human who isn't spamming, it would be really helpful to know we have a temporary ban on posting when we click "new topic" or "reply with quote". I understand it may not work with the quick reply option, but is it something that can be implemented better?

It's not such a big deal when it's a short reply, but it's a bit of a gut punch after writing a long, well thought out response. (I've copy pasted this before hitting "post topic" just in case... haha)

EDIT: Thought of a potential solution depending on how the system works. After you make your post that triggers the spam bot (in other words, the last succesful post you made before the temp ban), there could be a message saying something like, "Your post was succesful, but to prevent spam your account will be banned from posting for x number of minutes." Just a thought.

Thanks for the feedback Nathan E. We'll take a look at our spam blockers and see if we can improve the areas you highlight.

It IS because you're a new member. Our site gives everyone a reputation score, and if you have a low rep your posts are auto-examined more closely.

Thanks! I forgot to explicitly say this in my original post so wanted to be clear. When you're notified that you're not allowed to post after you've clicked reply, there is no way to recover what you've written (that I'm aware of)

Just a side tip, I always write longer social media posts in notepad first and then copy-paste them into the website. The "website glitches, comment disappeared" issue can happen on nearly any website so it's a good practice. I started doing it after I lost a couple comments that were basically blog posts and it was just crushing to have to rewrite them.
