I know that these have been out for some time now, but I just got my hands on Rd Lunceford's two banjo cd's. Very enjoyable! Check em out here if you haven't already.

On “Cotton Blossom” R.D. plays a Bowlin 1865 fretless, setting a standard for noting. There are, or were, tab books for both CDs, but I don’t know if they’re still available anywhere.

I got both CD and tab book for Drop Thimb from Elderly a few months back. Really nice tab, makes sense even to this beginner. ??

Thanks for the kind words folks.

Elderly should have stock in both the CD's and the books.

They had them yesterday when I was there.

I don't look at my copies much anymore for the simple reason that most of the tunes are under my fingers by now, though evolved over time. Essential...get them both!

Exactly as it should be.  Thanks for the kind words.

RD's CDs and tabs are a real inspiration and revelation. It took a while to realize that some of the tab books out there (won't mention any names) are a lot more complicated than they are musical. RD's recordings helped me realize that rhythm is more important than playing a lot of notes.

Do you have plans to make another recording with tab book, RD?

John;

I'd like to, but it's never got beyond the thinking about it stage.
Been 14 years since Cotton Blossom.
Maybe when I retire.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I've been listening to these while waiting for my grandson at his school and traveling the ten miles back and forth.

They are very nice and R. D. is a great player.

There is no way, though, I will ever play up-tempo as R.D. does on the Drop Thumb CD.

There is a tune on Cotton Blossom, however, that I want to learn and that is Minstrel Boy.

I have ordered the tab book for that CD, as it is, once again, available.

Elderly still does not have the other book.

I love that album. Haven't listened to it for a while. Must dig it out and get it in the car!

Both CD's are really fun to listen to, RD hit a grand slam with these!

Thanks again friends.

I recorded Drop-Thumb in 2000, and Cotton Blossom in 2005.  Predictably, in retrospect, I'd do some things differently.  Even so, I am glad that nearly twenty years later folks are still finding some value in those recordings.

With Appreciation; RD

Hi Mary;

I did a recording called The Old Blue Tick: Fiddle and Banjo Tunes from Missouri back in the '90's  and a recording with my old Irish Trad band Reel to Reel in the '80's, both long out of print.
