Yeah, I like the looks of the old site better.  Easier to read and find things. More colorful.

Guess we'll get used to it, but right now there's a whole bunch of stuff I used to know how to do that I'm going to have to re-figure out.

This is the best post on this subject yet.  It summarises the feelings of everyone, even people like me who navigate new web functions for a living.  If this was our company's website the wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments would be reflected in reduced productivity. Our IT department chronically forgets that the only reason they exist is to make the rest of the company more efficient, not exploring their latest portal looking for our files and forms.

However, IT people know that efficiency erodes as the software ages and is left behind by its environment or overwhelmed by the users and their content.  That is clearly where Eric was.  For his commercial website he was at risk of it becoming unusable for his customers and having it go down for a long time while he replaced it.

Eric to taking a big risk to avoid a bigger risk for a clientele who pride themselves on their retrograde lifestyle. We can help ourselves by giving him information about what computer systems and browsers we use. It is probably too much to ask for civil inputs considering how savagely we attack each other for deviating from a particular tuning or playing approach.  But at least he will get the feedback.

Thanks for everything BHO provides, but I do not like the new design -- and it appears it really wasn't ready for release.

Issues / OS's / Browsers

I have accessed BHO from 3 different platforms, FreeBSD (Unix type OS), Windows 7 Professional, OSX (latest update) -- all three using Firefox as the browser.

Besides the bland (IMHO) looking new format, here are issues I am seeing:

Login (when I click in the Username and Password fields) I see warning message,

"This connection is not secure. Logins entered here could be compromised. LEARN MORE" (this does little to promote confidence in logging in)

Further there is a lock with a red line through it (i.e., meaning insecure login) -- seeing this in both Windows and OSX, my FreeBSD box is probably too old to recognize the underlying code.

Thumbnail photos on Classifieds:

All three platforms show the thumbnail images as blown up larger than they are likely either set for, hence they look blurry and pixelated.

Also, this large size of thumb nail is no doubt making each entry for each classified block large (the size of the thumbnail) but there is small font for the title of the ad which to me just gets sort of lost. It makes it a bit obnoxious scrolling through the ads.

Further, the classified photos of a given ad when opened up also look blurry and pixelated with moire.

I don't like to be a curmudgeon, and I understand evolving with technology -- but at least have the classic site available until you get the bugs worked out. Again, I appreciate BHO -- but don't like BETA testing when I'm looking for a good deal on a used Stelling (LOL).

Keep up the great work, and thanks again BHO for being here.

Thanks for your feedback, soulcarve.

The security issue on login--that same thing existed on the old site. We're going to convert the entire site over to https soon, since that's the standard. Just putting out a few other fires first.

The classifieds: I actually switched the thumbnails this morning so they aren't blown up and ugly. I like the new photo layout on each classifieds' "homepage" a lot more than the old... but the largest photo does sometimes look a bit pixelated. We may need to bump up the resolution of the images we're saving to fix that... I'll check into it.

Nice Eric, your welcome -- and thank you for the fast follow-up.

I do see that the thumbnail issue is resolved -- looks much better, on all three boxes -- great work!

All the best!

soulcarve - Posted - 09/15/2017:  12:15:29

Not to butt in, I'm not an admin.

Just figured the logout thing, out.

GO TO Settings Gear (Top Right)
Click Settings Gear
Drop Down menu pops up
click Logout

Hope this helps.

I for one, DO NOT LIKE the new format. Give us the option of accessing the old style format. I can't find my videos or photos ect. There's an old military statement, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I wasn't having problems with the old format, this new one I don't like at all.

I hope that i"m replying to Davids comment, I cannot tell if the reply button is for the original post of Davids. But here goes. I to do not visit here as much anymore Dave the new site is a pain and uncomfortable for sure.

I feel it almost a burden since the change. I rarely visit now. It is hard for me to find things that seemed readily at hand previously. While it may be an "update" for the times and platforms, in my opinion, it is far, far from an "improvement".
