I searched the BHO archive and couldn't find any discussion of this basic question I have.

After a long long period of procrastination I'm about to finally purchase TabEdit and begin seriously playing around with creating tablature as a hobby. I think I could get pretty good at it in time.

For years I've been a Mac guy, and all I have is an older desktop. So I've pretty much decided after doing some basic research, to buy a stand-alone refurbished Hewlett Packard PC and buy and install the PC version of TablEdit. I'm thinking of using this machine for this primary use, and I like that I can carry it around with me. It's way cheaper than buying a Mac laptop, that's for sure. I can buy a factory refurbished machine delivered to my door and purchase a TablEdit license all for under $200 . No way to do that with a Mac!

Anyway, my question is: is there any noteworthy difference between the Mac or PC version of TablEdit that would warrant that I *not* go the PC route? Since I haven't owned a PC in a while I've only used the Mac demo version which I like and seems intuitive to me.

My basic understanding is there isn't any real difference between the two versions, maybe except for keystrokes and shortcuts, which I can deal with ... but the basic functionality is the same?

I'll take the plunge in the next few weeks, I'm in no hurry. I know that the owner of TableEdit posts here and also plenty of folks who use it all the time. Any feedback would be appreciated, I just want to spend this money wisely and get to it in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks in advance.

I run TableEdit in Linux with WINE emulator and it works great. I have run it natively in Windows on both desktops and laptops in the past. Had to run a software synthesizer on the laptop because it had no hardware synth. No issue. I find it quite capable, and Matthieu keeps adding to it. You'll have no regrets. On a parrallel note, I have debated on buying the full-blown TablEdit for IOS, but the free tefpad plays all my tabs and I can't imagine editing and/or entering more than a basic tab on a tablet.

Frank, it was decided months ago that any question on Tabledit go in the tab forum and become part of the "sticky" so anyone with questions regarding Tabledit could find answers quickly.   I just wanted to let you know that I'm moving the thread and why.

I use VMWare Fusion on my Mac specifically so I can run the PC version of TablEdit....   Fusion cost = $79.99, TableEdit cost = $59.97....   This solution provides full functionality and is cheaper than buying another PC

Thanks for the replies so far. My Mac is pretty old, and is no longer upgradable. I'm running system 10.6.8 which is the end of the upgrade path for this Mac, and is no longer supported by Apple, or Firefox, or Safari. The days are already numbered on this Mac, well, past that really. So my thinking is to jump over to a PC, and I like the portability rather than being tied to my desk at home on an obsolete OS.

If I had a more current, upgradable Mac, I'd lean that way but as I say, this Mac (MacPro 1,1, old as dirt) is a dead end and has been for a few years...

What I'm gleaning so far is that yeah, there's no functional difference between OS versions. I'll take the plunge soon, within a paycheck or two. I'm looking at a refurbed HP running Windows 10, plenty of speed and memory with warranty for only $123 delivered. I mean, with comparable horsepower my Mac has. So for a little more I get a practically new, current HP model.

Anyway, apparently I've already talked myself into this laugh and as much as I'm a Mac guy, I think I'll go this route for horsepower, and economy.

When I worked in a PC world, I had Tabledit on my Dell laptop. After retiring I returned to Apple and purchased a MacBook Pro. I purchased the Mac version of Tabledit and have not noticed much difference between the two. Like you said, there are a few differences in keystrokes, but nothing major. I found it easy to move from PC to Mac. I imagine moving the other way should not be a problem.

Plenty of folks here have used one OS version, or another, but not more than one or compared the difference as I can recall...

Your post is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thank you!!!
