Recording King RK-35 Banjos Australia & New Zealand, noticed this archived topic about the RK-35 not being available for sale in Australia  banjohangout.org/archive/267826      I am not aware if this is still the case but the RK-35 is available closer to Australia from New Zealand here banjos.co.nz

Since we still have to pay import tax on items over $,1000 that will still make it a very expensive banjo although you would save a little on the  AUD to NZD exchange rate and the shipping cost should be cheaper compared to getting one from the states.

NZsteve - Posted - 04/10/2017:  15:47:48

To calculate freight costs UPS wwwapps.ups.com/ctc/request?loc=en_us you may also be charged tax on freight ? Getting international freight costs from US online retailers is normally not very open without going through the whole sign in and purchase procedure, .... to get the freight cost right at the end, they do not like openly advertising international freight costs (expensive), "free freight" is to US destinations.

I don't know how others have done this but I have had 2 people visit me with RK35's for setups. They told me They paid $800.

Very nice and the best value for money I've ever seen. These only needed minor tweaking and one needed the tonering loosened just a hair before it hit turbo boost. These are the best fitting banjos I've come across for a low price. What I mean by that is the heel fit is perfect and set just right. Some higher priced ones are lesser in that department.

I've shipped banjos to Australia and NZ. Postage is easy to calculate and way, way cheaper than ups or FedEx. But as of Jan. 1, 2017, I will now need export paperwork from US Fish & Wildlife to send anything with a rosewood fretboard outside the USA,, new or used. Without it, your banjo can be siezed by your Customs.

I'm sure that someone will want something I have enough to put up with the amount of time this will take but, till that happens...

There are Australian RK dealers.

NZsteve - Posted - 04/11/2017:  16:34:09

Interesting comment, from my experience I have exported the RK 35 and other banjos and musical instruments from NZ to AU with no customs issues. The question was and still is, "is the RK 35 available in AU" I believe from this banjohangout.org/archive/267826 and from doing a search that it is not for whatever reason. (this appears to be the case ?).

Is it not the case that export paperwork is required to export the rosewood (and strangely enough mother of pearl !), from the US and that the customers banjo may be impounded by your >> US customs << if correct procedures are not followed, (I dare say that not all US retailers follow the correct procedure and may be caught out !), and it may also result  with a possible fine on the exporter as with the case of a major US company and mother of pearl inlays, (yes mother of pearl !)

Just to repeat for clarity that I have had no banjos or any other musical instruments impounded or any issues with AU customs.

Note that freight from any NZ retailer to AU is very low cost as you would expect (NZ Post), and with 3-4 days from order to delivery.

Hi Leon, current price for the RK 35 in $US is near $US 900, you can get lower cost  if you look around, they may have quoted cost price in $US ?. Once you get freight costs, exchange rate, Tax and customs costs etc. on top you end up with a pretty "horrible" number that doesn't look good when you compare it to the original cost price. It is very good value for money, and quite possibly the best overall value if you can afford it ! (that's why I stock them) . When people ask to import a particular banjo and you give them a breakdown cost they rarely come back, unless it is a high end high cost banjo then the freight is a lesser proportion of the overall costs.

Gold Tone’s troubles began in July 2013, when a container of instruments from China was pulled for inspection and found to have mother of pearl inlay. Although Gold Tone was able to produce a license and permit number, they discovered (much to their dismay) that they lacked an electronic declaration (eDecs) form, had neglected to pay the $95 inspection fee due for each instrument with mother-of-pearl inlays. And, to compound the problem, they had not used one of the 18 designated USFWS ports. Gold Tone had missed the fine print where these procedures are stated, and despite the fact that the source of the mother-of-pearl inlays originated in oyster shell usually harvested for human consumption, and not from any endangered species, Gold Tone was in violation, which led to an audit, which led to the settlement.

Wayne Rogers, President of Gold Tone, offers this advice for other manufacturers who export or import. When it comes to shell, 1) get a license (costs $100 a year), 2) pay the $95 eDec fee, 3) use only designated USFWS ports. Finally, Gold Tone is phasing out shell in favor of a synthetic material with the brilliance and reflective properties similar to the original.

Not to forget Artiste Instruments.

banjos.co.nz/

Take look at both NZ websites and compare prices.

The original question is still open !

"Is the RK-35 available in Australia", and from all of the available evidence it is not ! (I include your link below Eg. RK-R80 for $2,599.00)

dynamicmusic.com.au/ProductLis...CatID=465

Compare specs for both the RK-35 & RK-80

Steve

Thats the official RK dealer for Australia, which models they currently stock can easily be determined by an email

ANY other store selling RK instruments in Australia MUST get them from Dynamic Music, Thats what a dealer does, he sells to other retailers

Lewis Eady stock no RK Jo's.

lewiseady.co.nz/ukuleles-folk-...rq=banjos

Note to me, (Do not assume, research myself more thoroughly), I should have checked Scott's second link earlier.

Can anyone can point to a better priced new RK-35 Banjo in New Zealand, or Australia than here banjos.co.nz/ ?

Let me know if you can and I will look to altering the Recording King RK-35 Banjo pricing structure.

NZsteve - Posted - 04/13/2017:  20:37:08

Hi Scott, the links you have detailed above are without any proof or content relating to the availability of the RK-35 in Australia, we know where they are available from in Australasia and that is banjos.co.nz/

If you have any evidence of the RK-35 being sold in Australia then show it.

For the second time .... The original question is still open to you, if you seem to think that the RK-35 is available in AU ? then show us.

"Is the RK-35 available in Australia ?"

You have not attempted to answered the original point of the topic as repeated below, and you continue not to do so, you give links to no proof or information as shown in my reply's.

If you can prove that the RK-35 is available in AU then do so.

The Original question

"Recording King RK-35 Banjos Australia & New Zealand, noticed this archived topic about the RK-35 not being available for sale in Australia banjohangout.org/archive/267826 I am not aware if this is still the case but the RK-35 is available closer to Australia from New Zealand here banjos.co.nz"

The question I give you is simple if you know the answer

Is the RK-35 available in Australia or not !.

Show your evidence if you have any.

If you can not then you do not know !.

Received a reply from Iain McLure from Dynamic music which was quick and he stated:    We don’t bring in the R-35’s unfortunately.

NZsteve - Posted - 04/17/2017:  23:54:22

Hi Paul, straight from the horses mouth (dynamic music that is) that's definitive .... maybe they are not allowed to bring them in ?, either way I would not like to run the RK-80 alongside the RK-35 !, try work it out and see what conclusions that you may arrive at. Steve.

ps. I like that blue thing you do !

The Broovale store  In Gondwana does not have any supply of RK 35 neither have these people any intentions of restocking  it nor resuppying the Dirty 30 Banjos.Katoomba music contact with Dynamic make it known that there will be the RKO 55 Resonator available at $AU 899 and the Openback RK556 at 679.The RK 50 is hard to find so if you can beat Custom cost importing from NZ may be an option but u wont avoid the heavy  duty ,Gst, insurance and shiping costs and clearance fee which Sydney custom work out on a 15percent of total cost of banjo. If the reaper dont get you customs will bury your Banjo.Amen.

Hi Scott, the RK35 and maybe other RK's, (not checked), now has a Padauk fretboard and not the Rosewood, reverb.com/nz/news/new-cites-r...d-species

Importing Rosewood is a problem. It gets more difficult !.
