Yes. TablEdit is the program that you create the tabs with. You can view the tabs with TEFview (a free viewer), but you cannot create them.

There are quite a few useful features, quite unrelated to editing and creating files that are only available in the full version.

I can't list what they are, but I really miss them when I'm using TefView, which is all I have at the place where I teach. I used Tefview for quite a while but for the minimal cost involved TablEdit is well worth the money. Also, as an ex software developer, I like to support the authors of this great product.

There is at least one option that my TefView * always * forgets: print setup / multitrack. I have to suppress the printing of other instruments every time I print a song (even the same song). Does anybody else have this problem? Or have a solution?

Sorry -

TEFView will print what the tab is. If there are multi instruments in the tab, you get them. Tabledit will allow you to save the options for each tab on that tab.

I don't see any 'save' command, like there is in many applications. I can set options... and then go away. I am using the "save/load configuration with files" option (which he remembers). As far as I can tell, he remembers all the settings * except * those on the multitrack tab. Unless there's something I'm not seeing (iwhich has happened before!).

Right. TEFview is a viewer. To make the changes permanent, like you want to do, try downloading the demo version of Tabledit. It does everything the paid version will do, with the exception of saving more than 15 bars.

Do you know how to contact the people who put this tutorial together? I tried to print out the pdf file of chord charts, and the first one is set up wrong - it cuts off the left-hand side of the page with the "key" column. It looks like the top margin is too big, so it shifts everything down the page.

However, Larry hosts the TablEdit Tutorials (http://el-kay.com//tabledit/) at the El-Kay software site (http://el-kay.com/index.html) and under the 'Contact' tab on that page an e-mail address is listed. I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a way to get Tabledit to show what cord your playing instead of just numbering the strings and frets?

What I mean, in case I'm not being clear, is, that sometimes when you're playing along with tab is shows you what whole or partial cord you're playing to help simplify figuring out the finger position.

My old banjo teacher would include what cord position you were in if it wasn't totally clear by the frets numbered on the page where your fingers were supposed to be. If say it was "D" you were playing but only a two-finger "D", he would still place the letter D above that part of the song to help speed things up.

When someone puts a tune/song into tabledit, there is an option of putting chord diagrams and/or names above the tab, as you are asking for. However, the program does not do it automatically- each diagram must be placed in the tab via an edit, and the diagram itself must be entered or selected from a "Library" that has been built by the tabber.

So, if you have a tab by somebody who didn't take this step, you have two choices: enter the diagrams yourself (if you have a paid version of Tabledit - and know the chords), or find a tab with the chords in it.

There is an auto chords tick box in the options but it assigns some pretty weird names to chords. Somtimes it's useful, sometimes it ain't.

True, as long as the chord (or at least two notes are entered in the same time slot) is entered in the tab. For what I think Tim wanted, this is not really a good choice.

I agree totally. I just wanted to point out that it is there. Like I say, sometimes it's useful, sometimes it ain't. Would'nt it be great if you could edit them and the descriptions later but then I suppose it wouldn't be auto chords then would it?

I am a big fan of tefview as a learning tool, and figure if I can learn a dozen trad. classic tunes from it I'll have a feel for the banjo that I have for guitar. My problem is the AUDIO TRACK WON"T WORK and it's breakin my heart!
After uninstalling and reinstalling many times, I am at a tragic loss. Anybody ever hear of this happening before?

I don't know if this has been addressed already, but when i scroll up or down using the mouse wheel, it scrolls through each measure. Is there a way to make it so when i scroll down the whole page moves down, instead of moving measures. I always lose my place when all the measures move.

Need some help please. Recently purchased full version of Tabledit. Seems to have loaded properly but I just can't get it to print any lines, either horizontal or vertical. Prints all notations and symbols, just not the table itself. I am running Vista with an HP Photosmart printer.

I'm having a problem with TablEdit on my Mac. I have version 265d8.

Every time I print any tab, I have to reset all the preferences.

Any TableEdit file I open takes on the same preferences as the last preferences I selected. Checking or unchecking the Advanced Preference option "Save/Load Configuration with files" has no effect on this. This wasn't always true, but has been for a while.

Any suggestions?
