Hey everyone,

I've been learning by ear for about 10.5 months now and I thought I should give and update on my progression (or regression if applicable).

Please forgive the mistakes and fuzzy spots my microphone really intimidates me when I have a banjo in my hands.

They're all first takes except for Shuckin' the Corn, that took me 3 times to get it good enough.

I'm using my Deering Goodtime.

Let me know how I'm doin'.

I hope all of you enjoy my clips and thanks ahead of time for all the advice.

Nose.

Nose,
If you are really 14, I am jealous.
In fact if you are 41, I am still Jealous.

Keep up the great work,

Goze

Nose,

I'm like the other ones, you are going to be great. Makes me jealous. I've been picking 6 years now and it sure is slow for me.

Good Luck
John

Kid, don't you ever eat or sleep? You have to pick all the time to progress at the rate you're going. I like that you have slowed it down a little and are working on the timing. It's paying off big time. You have a future as a banjo picker if you keep at it. I've never seen anyone progress like you are!

I am impressed!

The only suggestion I have is to not push the speed quite so much on some of your selections.  When you do, you speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down.  When you start at a more modest tempo, your consistency is excellent.

Put another way:  "Don't play any part of the song faster than you can comfortably (and reliably) play the hardest part."

You're turning out some amazing sounds!

Wow!! I've been playing 30 years and don't sound like you. You've definitely put in the time and effort to be good.Keep it up!

Sounds great Robert.  I thought I was a quick study.  It took me 5 years to get that up the neck break to Fireball Mail as smooth as you have it.  Keep up the good work!

I hope to also,

I get to jam with my flatpicker cousin every so often, and it really helps me with developing a sense of rhythm and volume control during backup.
