Ok, I've read several threads regaling the merits of the "Zeppified" Goodtime but found nothing specifically explaining exactly what modifications Zepp made. So I visited his site & found that he's shut it down.  I wonder if anyone can tell me what bridge, I think it was a Moon but which one and what height/weight? I also suspect he replaced the tailpiece with a "No-knot" but is there one manufacturer that's better or preferred?

The "Zeppified" Goodtimes (the name was not my idea, BTW) comprised the following:

Scooped Goodtime (this was before Deering offered a scoop, and ours, frankly, was a much nicer scoop.  Ours were done by Mike Ramsey, while IMHO Deering's scoops are too deep).  The banjos were set up with a

• Renaissance head, a


• No-Knot tailpiece, 


• Medium guage (10, 12, 14, 22, 10) Ome brand chenilled strings, a


• Moon bridge (light), and a


• TKL 7842  hardshell case.

These came about because it's how I had (and still have) mine set up, and people really liked them. Our total sales of Zeppified Goodtimes was around 60, based on the number of swapped-out Goodtime tailpieces I had on hand when I closed the shop!

Thank you both for replying so quickly. I gather that the Renaissance head should be the 1/2 inch crown. What bridge height do you recommend? At 30 bucks a pop I'd rather not do a lot of experimenting. I probably will over time but starting in the ballpark would be a plus. ;-)

The standard Goodtime bridge is 5/8, so we usually used a 5/8 light Moon brand. There are some folks who like slightly higher (or lower) action, of course, so we were always willing to put one whatever height bridge provided that action.

Oh, and we routinely installed high crown heads.
