Hi, this is an original tune I've recorded before, called Enjoy the Ride. Here, I've experimented with overdubbing the same part on cello banjo, banjola and openback, in an attempt to get a fat, multi-textured sound, as if it were all coming from one big, exotic instrument, like I did on this tune I uploaded recently. Let me know what you think.

Also, any images or stories come to mind from the music? 

I should mention that I'm in gCGCD​, my favorite tuning. The cello banjo is a Gold Tone CEB-5; the banjola is a converted Stefan Sobell cittern; and the openback is a Gold Tone BC-350+, a Bob Carlin's model.

Thanks, Rob. Since I know you have the same openback, I have it strung with nylon strings and setup with a skin head. The strings are nylon guitar 1st's, 2nd, 3rd and a #30 silverwound. And, hey, let me know if you run across any movie makers, with a bunch of money, who need some exotic sounds : )

Rain falling on a shrine - somewhere exotic like Sumatra. That was the first image that came into my head. I love your new sound Paul, there is an uncluttered richness to those tones - it sparkles but it also has depth.

I too have been going back and revisiting old compositions, I find I can play them with more maturity now. Definitely a worthwhile detour to take. Look forward to more.

Thank you very much for your responses. I'm enjoying the experiment of trying to merge sounds into one, acoustically, without processing. As if by magic, we can come up with our own special blend of coffee. What I imagine is actually being able to play all the sounds, from the three instruments, on one instrument that would somehow contain them all. If I happen to run into an extraterrestrial, on one of my walks in the mountains, I'll try to find out if there's a luthier, in another dimension, who might be able to put one together for me. In the meantime, I'm forced to merely play one at a time. Except on an audio recorder!

You've done it Paul - created a new sound
Something about the way those 3 instruments intertwine is like magic
It's like mixing a new color
And the way the music flows is like a journey
One could be riding a train or car looking out the window
Or gliding along above the trees feeling one with the wonders of nature
This is the journey of the self
That only seems like a journey
That is an awakening
Into the now
Forever

You could do a whole album of that
You must be working on one...
