On some PBS stations tonight at 10 p.m., there is supposed to be a special program about instrument builders and both Stelling and Martin guitars are supposed to be featured.  Check your local PBS programming.

Thanks for the reminder!  I've set my DVR to record it.

Rats, unfortunately it's not scheduled in the Twin Cities area.

According to Geoff, I bought the MasterFlower being built on this show.
It is beautiful and sounds great.

The nautical banjo is exceptional.

Great video, but the version that aired on PBS wasn't as long, and didn't get into the discussion or illustration of his decorative work. It was one segment of several on different kinds of hand-crafted American musical instruments. I think I'll get in touch with the producers and see if a longer version of the program is available on DVD.

Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. I could have watched a whole hour on the Stelling alone.

That's a cool video! Not to mention Home Sweet Home in the key of D - one of my favorites. Stelling banjos are gorgeous. I've owned several and found myself looking at them more than playing'em.

To all above,
I've pleaded with Crafted In America several times to make a dvd of all the music we played (at least an hour of nothing but music was recorded with me, Tony and Bill Ellis and Darin Lawrence and Jeff Volgelgesang). Due to time constraints and the agenda of the producers, a mere amount of us playing was put on the 10 or 15 minute segment. Compare that to all the music that was played on the other manufacturers' segments like Martin, the Monette trumpet, the drum stick company, and the Ukulele company in Hawaii. Had I had anything to do with the production, it would have been at least half and half for playing the product vs. making the product. Maybe, if enough viewers complain, Craft in America will produce that dvd. They say that not enough funding was available. I offered to pay for it but was ignored or flatly turned down. They have all the music on video that just needs to be compiled onto one dvd. How expensive would that be?

I don't know anything about production costs, Geoff, but I'd buy a copy for sure, if it was available.

BTW, I'm the guy whose 34 year old Staghorn you worked on in the setup clinic you did at Murphy's camp in March.

I was disappointed and baffled at the lack of music time. What little there was, was really beautiful and tantalizing. The banjos and the players were wonderful. I guess we gadflies need to start squawking to the producers.
