Dawg & Earl

 

This week's tune is the beloved theme song for "Car Talk"--man, I loved that show!

"Dawggy Mountain Breakdown" (let's call it DMB) was written by David Grisman, and recorded on his "Dawg Grass" EP which was released in 1983. Earl himself played banjo on that EP, so it's Earl you hear on Car Talk.

This sounds amazingly like Winnie Winston's "New York Ramble" released many years earlier but with Fred Wiesz on Bass and David Grisman on mando. I'm not quite sure who wrote it but I think the credit goes to David Grisman...Jack

The video: That's the reason Walker Creek Music Camp, Spring and Fall, is such a good camp. In the video Keith Little on Banjo, almost always teaching some kind of vocal class at Walker Creek, Chad Manning on fiddle has been to Walker Creek (and provides private instructions in Northern California) Jim Nunally on guitar is almost always at camp. Dave Grissom hasn't been there when I 've been there (I've been 5 times the last 2 and half years) but this Spring his son, Sam, was teaching bass.

It is a high quality, well run camp with excellent instructors.

My wife LN (Ellen) and I never miss Car Talk when it's on. They've actually given me a lot of good tips over the years ..Great show...Jack...reminds me, I have to renew my XM radio...
