This week's tune is an instrumental jazz standard written by Jack Pettis, Billy Meyers and Elmer Schoebel that was first recorded by the New Orleans Rhythm Kings in 1922 as "Bugle Call Blues." It was popularized by swing-era versions from Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and many others.
Earl released his version on Flatt & Scruggs' highly-acclaimed 1961 "Foggy Mountain Banjo" LP. Bill Monroe (with banjo player Tony Ellis) soon followed up with this version, and since then it's been recorded and performed by many others including the Osborne Bros and Tony Rice.
Typically played in G.

Here's a great version by Lee Marcus that I fooled with years ago...p.s. very tasty video with Bela firing it up and of course Earl's video, well Earl is just Earl and that's as good as it gets.
