Key of D – double D tuning – aDADE (or Double C capo 2nd fret)

Dan first got this 3 part version from Thorn Cary at the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention back about 1985 or so. He played this 3 part version which Dan loves but doesn’t often hear. It made a re-appearance recently on a recording Dan reviewed by Rising Appalachia on their Filthy Dirty South CD. Another recorded source includes The Younger Gang. Modern references for sure, but both worth a listen.

Nothing really tricky here. Just a great tune. Easy fun for the new year!

The written version of this tune can be found as number 14 in Dan's Old Time Favorites for Clawhammer Banjo (MB 30224) – Fiddle/mando version of the book is also available (MB 30225)

You can purchase the video lesson (for unlimited streaming and download) here on the Banjo Hangout for $6.

Dan and I would love to hear any feedback you have on these videos, so feel free to post or email us. Our goal here is provide a steady, affordable way for people to learn a new clawhammer tune weekly (or as often as they'd like).

It would be great to hear some of your versions so far so post them here for all to hear!

When I hit watch a preview video I get:

Sorry, there is no video here.

Either it was deleted or it never existed in the first place. Such are the mysteries of the Internet.

When I try to preview the tutorials I get a Vimeo screen.  When I try to open the video I get what appears to be a timer like the video is loading but nothing ever happens.  I've tried on several of them.  Am I doing something wrong? Thank you

Preview should take you into the Vimeo screen with the video. Click the play button there and it seems to work okay for me.

Most of these are about a half hour long and at the beginning I didn't compress (through Handbrake) so as large as 2 gig. Even so, the actual tune-torial(s) can be a large file - now down to about 500 MB but still HD so take some time to load. I know that they take at least 10-20 minutes to upload (some longer). How long did you wait? Eric may also have some thoughts.

Thanks Dan
I usually waited for no more than one minute then gave up and tried again. It did appear to be loading but I didn't realize it would take that long. I will try again.

I tried again tonight. It appeared to load for 5 minutes but never worked. I'm using an I phone. I will try on my desktop
There's a moving line at the run/pause button. I assume that's the loading sign?? It just keeps on going. I've never used Vimeo before

It turns out to be my phone. It must not like Vimeo. I tried it on my desktop pc and it works fine. Sorry for any confusion.

That's great Dan!  Nice arrangement.  A few years back . . . July 2010 is what the note says  . . . I posted my personal arrangement of Cumberland Gap on the Hangout - played Clawhammer, Key of G Major.  I hope everyone likes it well enough and please feel free to take whatever licks you might fancy.

I had forgotten that I tabbed it out . . . but here it is! Actually it appears that I did not tab all of it out . . . there is some jamming going on here but I tabbed the major chunks (click on the picture and it will take you to PDF or JPG) . . . the recording is at the bottom of the post.

Best Wishes, Tom
