Key of A – A Tuning –aEAC#E
In this, Tunetorial number 29, Dan "Clawdan" Levenson teaches a less-played tune, Salty River Reel. This is tune number 42 in Old Time Favorites for Clawhammer Banjo (MB 30224).
Dan has heard several fiddle versions of this tune from Cyril Stinnett, Charlie Walden and Dwight Lamb. Chirps Smith has also recorded it as well, though Dan can’t tell you exactly which of these (if any) was his first source. Cyril Stinnett’s is considered to be the historical source for this tune.
Once again, Dan has included a fiddle version of it in the intro so you will have a melodic source to work from.
You can purchase the video lesson (for unlimited streaming and download) here on the Banjo Hangout for $6.
Dan and I would love to hear any feedback you have on these videos, so feel free to post or email us. Our goal here is provide a steady, affordable way for people to learn a new clawhammer tune weekly (or as often as they'd like).
It would be great to hear some of your versions so far so post them here for all to hear!
