Walt Koken is always at the very top of my list of favorite living old-time banjo players., so in a way he is in his own separate category. The rest of my list is far less static, though, so TODAY, the next three are Dan Gellert, Richie Stearns, and Rafe Stefanini. Tomorrow, the next three may well be Cathy Fink, Paul Brown, and Chris Coole. Am I cheating? :)

​Mostly because all three were steeped in the Round Peak sound I love  and they have so many great stories of fine times at Tommy Jarrell's house - also because all three, along with Adam Hurt, live less than 10 miles from my home. Winston-Salem really is the center of the old-time universe!
