Key of G – G Tuning -gDGBD

In this, Tunetorial number 27, Dan "Clawdan" Levenson teaches another of his favorites, Katy Hill.

This tune appears in two of Dan's books, Old Time Favorites for Clawhammer Banjo (MB 30224) AND Dan's older and first Mel Bay publication, Buzzard Banjo, Clawhammer Style (MB 99126). The version in Old Time Favorites has been much updated since that first tab so if you have to pick one source over the other, we suggest Old Time Favorites. This tune can be very basic or quite involved so pick your licks and make it your own!

We get into some involved rhythmic choices and investigate more on how scales and chords help you learn tunes and licks.

You can purchase the video lesson (for unlimited streaming and download) here on the Banjo Hangout for $6.

Dan and I would love to hear any feedback you have on these videos, so feel free to post or email us. Our goal here is provide a steady, affordable way for people to learn a new clawhammer tune weekly (or as often as they'd like).

It would be great to hear some of your versions so far so post them here for all to hear!
