Deaf Lester locked his own account because of unfair treatment by the moderators, as I understand it, and as it was explained to me by several BHO members in private. I do not know any details beyond that. I was not there and did not see what threads or topics were involved. All I know for sure, is that he is in self-imposed exile. I think he was an asset to BHO overall.

DLC was often rude and antagonistic. He felt free to call those with other opinions small-minded and ignorant. He was also quite talented and very knowledgable. He has been a part of the banjo world for years and knows the music and the instrument inside out. He often made me angry, yet I wish that he was still here. I'm OK with strong opinions as long as them who dish it out can also take it, which is not always the case. I can sometimes learn something from those who disagree with me.

It doesn't matter who is on what side or which scientists say what because the real debate is, as always, about money. And most proposals are for someone other than the proposer to bear the cost, for the dubious benefits to other people somewhere in the future. Because the question of what causes climate change is small compared to the question of what we can and should do about it, if anything. I don't see people lowering their standard of living in order to participate in a long-running experiment with no certain outcome, and any outcome arriving many decades in the future. It is very easy for a politician or party to gain support by promising programs that "other people somewhere" will have to pay for, but very difficult to get elected calling for sacrifices from your own support base. I just don't see anything substantial happening anytime soon. And that may well be for the best for all I know, which is not much, but I'm not at all convinced by those who are completely convinced. At this point is seems more like an article of faith than anything else, and faith has no place in science.

Global warming is a good topic because everyone weighs in on it.  The less education, the more certainty.  Take this 'almost 100% certain' business.  It is really 100% because nobody has ever denied that humans make a contribution.  I have rarely seen a climate discussion that touches on the real issues and I have been paying close attention since 1989.  Global warming is great.  It brings out courtship displays in the liberal corners of the HO.  We start the music then sit back and watch the dancing.  Ha ha!

Someday I might start a Global Warming discussion here.  In the meantime, I regularly blast the warmists on my FB wall.  Tune in and stay current.

2.  Climate has been changing continuously since the Earth was formed.

3.  The Sun is a variable star.  

4.  Computer models are neither data nor evidence.  

5.  It is not possible to accurately quantify how much climate change is anthropogenic.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to aggravate a lot of folks . . .

 . . . but I'm an engineer, and I'm used to doing that.

Well, it's Old Ron's thread and topic.  We are just exploring the general possibilities.  There have been no traps laid for unsuspecting progbots.  No intellectual violence is planned.  We are just reviewing the past and future possibilities of annoying liberals.  But as you say, there is a connection.  Both my banjos have good days and bad days.  I think it is the changing climate, or is it weather? I'm confused.

When I take my banjo out into the back yard on a hot day, I've noticed (1) the banjo gets warmer and (2) it goes flat.  

We may now have the root cause for banjo tuning issues . . .

You are hovering on the edge of getting a nice fat grant from NASA or maybe the NEA.  Anything related to global warming will get funded.  Jellyfish, frogs, turtles, even banjos are money magnets to the clever grant writer.

Gasp.... Every banjo I have ever had goes sharp as the temp goes up...And most of everybody's instruments do also..

Sometimes its pretty cold in our regular jamming place (takes about 30 minutes for the kerosene heater to warm it up, unless someone starts it early) So we expect it...

(I think it because the wood expands faster than the strings? but they always go sharp)

(another concern about global warming?)

I respect Richard's constitutional right to his own opinion, and it is pretty much too late to do much about it now, anyway.  But it's not all bad news.  Thanks to Richard single-handedly convincing everybody that global warming is a hoax, you can still sell that expensive beach house for a good price (unless you live in New Jersey), and buy that little rustic getaway in the mountains while it's still relatively cheap.

I'm glad that there are many members here who know the banjo inside and out who don't feel the need to be rude and antagonistic. Possessing one doesn't mean that the other should be acceptable.

Good to see that Richard Dress hasn't wasted his time getting any education during his time out. I'm all in favour of stubborn ignorance - it actually makes the job of educating folks with open minds so much easier.

But if Richard keeps bringing up and ranting about Global Warming, and Climate Change, isn't he already breaking the No Politics rule of the BHO forums? Especially when he starts calling everyone who disagrees with him by derogatory names that he apparently learns from watching Bill O'Really?

I'm not saying it is yet time to ban Richard again, but perhaps he should curb his enthusiasm for spouting various right wing agendas on a NO Politics forum, or people will really start replying to his nonsense, and the forums will once again devolve into political camps sniping back and forth --- and you know religion won't be far behind.

I'm neutral on the subject. I can live with a no politics forum and I can live with a heavy politics forum. but I will not stick around a Right Wing Only Politics Forum. If I wanted to watch the Mighty Righteous Power Trippers battling straw men I could tune in to Fox News, 24 hours a day.

Not sure  about all this global warming talk,but we did have a few good discussions about rhthym.

 A couple of things Richard mentioned really stuck with me, something like

"develop a good sense of rhythm " and

" the rhythm  needs to come from inside of you"

I probably should have mentioned them both.  Wikipedia says GEN-X was coined in the 50's and generally refers to those born from the early 60's through the 80's.  I  have two children born in the early 60's and they definitely consider themselves and their friends GEN-Xers.

The older GEN-Xer's are already starting to steam up the windows around here.
