I am not sure why I called this Calico Waltz except that I did spend a little time in Calico CA which is a ghost town in the Mojave desert. I wrote most of this tune while on vacation in Oregon, and all I brought with me was a little ukulele. It was enough apparently.

A beaut tune you've come up with here Big L.

Shades of legendary country pianist Floyd Cramer,  are evident here, in your fine banjo playing.

I know it's impossible - - - but I'd love to hear you do this tune with Floyd - -  ticklin'  the ivories, I'm sure he'd love it !. - - Don.

Janet, I play the opening passage of this tune on the uke, not a banjo uke but an old Martin I picked up recently,

Yeah Don, even Earl Scruggs was influenced by Floyd, you can't avoid it really on this kind of tune.

And thank you Michael, Tom and Paul! I get tons of support from you guys no matter what I play, but I have resolved to play more banjo-appropriate material lately, and this is where I start.

Yes, very classical Western feel, but some modern technique on a solid instrument.  This is very nice.  I like the Floyd Cramer idea, too.

I've given this some serious consideration, and feel this is the scene where Matt and Miss Kitty ride out to a secluded meadow for an on the ground picnic not knowing that Festus is watching from the treeline.
