Looks like a nice project banjo:

I'd go after it, but I don't think I could splurge on another old banjo at the moment ;)

I think they, along with the "Venus" were made for J. F. Stratton.

Here's a pic of the pair (owned by Knuckled Under on the BHO):

According to him, the "Venus" is a lady's (-size) banjo, and the "Adonis," a gent's.

From the rafters of a chicken coop none the less. Looks like an egg-celent project to me! Sorry I couldn't resist.

If the "Adonis" and the "Venus" were actually a pair, then someone didn't get their mythology quite right. Adonis is from Greek mythology, and Venus is from the later Roman. Venus started out Greek, but her name way back then was Aphrodite. Adonis and Aphrodite did, it appears, have a thing going, but if the makers wanted accuracy they should have named the Lady's banjo "Aphrodite."

Maybe all those letter swouldn't fit, though, and I suppose Venus is close enough.

Adonis, it seems was offed by a wild boar. This thread is now probably being offed by a wild bore.

(Hey, that joke is no worse than "egg-cellent.")

hey does anyone else think that the shipping is kind of high on this one?

Billybiltbanjo - Posted - 08/07/2014:  13:51:46

$49.55 expedited or $24.83 standard shipping doesn't sound too high David. He will likely be out of pocket after packaging, hauling to the post office and paying the final value fee to Ebay.

Depends on where you live, expedited to me is listed as $77.20. But $28.90 for standard is much better.

The dowel stick seems to have been broken and repaired. Even so, the price doesn't seem unreasonable if you are looking for such a banjo..
