Yes, it would have to be a custom resonator, but it would be getting a bit cumbersome with a standard resonator design.  Perhaps the Weymann rim coupled with an internal resonator design?

It seems to me like that would work very well, and look good too. The plate could be like a giant rim cap. All that would be needed is the inside lip.

OK, here we go. Drilling holes.

On my Shopsmith in drill press mode.

Big holes in the bottom of the rim.

Small holes on the top.

One bracket hook and invisible nut in place.

Onward and upward!

Then I installed half of the hooks with a small steel washer in each hole for the nuts to bear against.

And I had to bend the hooks a bit to reach the tension hoop.  Maybe next time I could drill the hole on a slight angle, so that the hole starts in the center of the rim bottom and comes out closer to the inside edge of the shelf.  But bending the hooks isn't that bad, either.

And the head tightened down.

Now, I'm going to take a break and get a neck fitted to this thing to see what it sounds like.

If it sounds half as good as it looks, it's gonna sound great !  I've got a neck and 2 bridges headed your way.
