Hey John... yeah... this one is tempting but you never know what you're getting on EBay. Anyway, you know I prefer those Balch-Stern calfskin heads, They're the best out there!!! I hope you're keeping an eye out for me on a super clean one. I need one more.

A head like this would be great for a collectable vintage banjo or museum piece. But, I don't think I would want it on an every-day player.

I'm just thinking that the glue wouldn't hold up. I'm noticing on mine that there is quite a bit of stretching but one you get it tightened (about 3 weeks)... They're better than any plastics head out there. The sound is unique and incredible!

John, thanks for posting. Very tempting to me also......I am so happy with the new Balch head on my Mastertone, that I really don't think I would ever use this old one.
But I think the price is a steal. If nobody that needs it buys it, I probably will......Bill Anderson

Bill - I totally agree regarding the price. I think it is a bargain.
If you want an proper head for a collectable banjo - where else are you going to find an authentic 60-70 year old part -unused- in original packaging? Too bad it isn't a Rogers. But ... this one would be IDEAL for an old B&D Roy Smeck stage model tenor banjo.
But for an everyday player banjo, I would prefer a fresh hide.
