It's a non-geared peg for a bottom of the line aluminum banjo, so, hardly worth getting a new button, let alone a new peg.
I'll post later as to wheter or not it help up, but the shaft DID slide back out, after the epoxy had dried.

Ahhh, never mind.
Either I didn't let the epoxy set up long enough, or something.
But it did't hold up.

Hey, it's the thought that counts. Thanks for failing so the rest of us may succeed ![]()

For $5.50 delivered, probably costs less than the epoxy! That assumes you work for free~!

Agreed, though some aluminium bodied banjos have such thin necks and are made of such poor wood that reaming out the 5th hole is risky.

But you could widen the hole somewhat, and seat the tuner using the metal glue JB Weld that Mike deployed in his experiment.

From which vendor cometh such a blessing?

I once made an emergency replacement knob from a slab cut from an old screw driver handle; I still have it for sentimental reasons.

That one is gone but there are others:

One of those eBay listings (seller "banjoist") is BHO member Ho C Ying, from whom I bought five of those very 5th string tuners about a year ago for use on cigar box banjos. She's a great person and trustworthy eBay seller. Good player, too!
As you might expect, the tuners themselves aren't as high in quality as more expensive ones, but mine are perfectly functional. Definitely a step up from friction ones. For the price, I wasn't afraid to take 'em apart, see how they work, lube 'em up and put 'em back together!
