A few years ago, it came to light that many Days had been set aside to honor various people, animals foods, inanimate objects, and concepts. But among them, not a single one honored the Banjo! Nature abhors a vacuum, and those of us willing to uindertake the task did so. We hashed it out here banjohangout.org/archive/128303 and the following proclamation was issued in the cyber pages of The Banjo Hangout. Management has not disowned us, I guess it must be OK.
Proclamation:
“Whereas, it having been IGNORED for too many years by the various Congresses, Parliaments, Presidents, Kings, Dictators, & c, And Whereas, All like-minded Banjo-loving persons, dogs, cats, birds amphibians, reptiles, etc are in concordance on this being necessary to the well-being of banjo players, makers, fans, and humanity in general, And Whereas, no other persons, dogs cats, amphibians or reptiles have seen fit to step up and do what needs doing, All of us Banjo Hangerouters do hereby DECLARE and DECREE that there shall henceforth and forever be An International BANJO APPRECIATION and RECOGNITION DAY, or Days, date or dates to be decided by consent of those Hangerouters joining in this DECLARATION. Herein subscribed by my two-finger style of OLDE TYME TYPING on This Eighth Day Of October, in the year of 2008. Can I get an AMEN on that? Now, go pick one in honor of this momentous occasion.”
The date chosen was the Third Saturday in June, commencing in 2010 AD. The next Banjo Day will be June 15,2013. Put on new strings, tune ‘em up, and find a local place for yourself and your chosen or volunteer companions to celebrate!

It's just another 3-chord banjo tune, so, why the HLL wouldn't you be able to get one?

My boss declared the second Friday in June to be "Bring your banjo to work day" Last year there were six banjos out of about twenty employees. This year we expect more, Maybe ten banjos. INCLUDING THE BOSS. he went out and bought a Deering Sierra and started lessons.
On that Friday we sit and pick from 3 to 5 in the afternoon.
Maybe this will catch on nationwide someday!!!!
