The previous old time jam thread is now trapped in the archives, so I'm starting up a new one! I'll use this space from time to time for announcements, among other things.

The latest news is that the clawhammer tabs for volume 2 are now available for lifetime members. If you're a lifetime member and did not receive a link to the download, please contact me through the site and let me know.

Cool! I'm not a member, yet..but I did buy (download version) Vol I, and have really been liking it. I mostly just play fiddle to it, but have been playing along with some clawhammer lately. It's such a great resource!! Thanks, Josh!

Awesome Josh! I personally cannot overstate the importance oldtimejam.com had in helping my in the first few years as a banjo player. Both in being comfortable playing in circles as well as being able to play with fiddlers on the fly.

Oldtimejam has long been bookmarked here.

The finest moment in my short sweet banjo career has been sitting next to Josh, jamming with Adam Hurt and Paul Brown, at the Suwannee Banjo Camp in Florida, last March. Adam on guitar and Paul on fiddle. For a while it was just the four of us.  Late in the evening Ken Perlman walked in to join in. Not joking. I thought I had died and gone to Banjo Heaven!! 

When I tune up to practice with Josh on Oldtimejam I can relive that happy moment.

I must say, this old time music machine you created has been the one single greatest tool I have ever run across. Now that being said, I think I was at exactly the right spot in my learning process where I stood to gain the most from this tool you have created.
I could already sort of play the banjo but I wasn't sure I understood how to play "old timey" on it. Tab can only take you so far and I had no access to any jams or any other "old timey" musicians to even ask the questions.
Being able to play along with a band at full speed and being able to have said band repeat the tune over and over again was like the Rosetta stone for me. It gave me the confidence to know that if I did find a jam, I could keep at least keep up.
Armed with my new found confidence I redoubled my efforts to locate others in my area that played in the old time style. I found them and now I have become a regular in my local old time community.
It is a good thing you have done sir, a very good thing indeed. I'm a lifetime member and proud to be so.

1. Step Around Johnny, key of D - a great jam tune

2. Dull Chisel, key of A - written by the late Garry Harrison, and one of the most perfect fiddle tunes ever, IMO.
