We -- the Lone Star String Band -- had a nice gig yesterday at Whole Foods Market in Plano. That's Earnie Taft on fiddle; Jim Cadorette on guitar and me singing with a Ramsey fretless banjo. This is an old Carter Family number, and I only wish I could sing it better.

Sounds good to me, but the darn video keeps stopping! Stoopid youtube.

Dean, I watched a good many of your videos (solo and with your group) and have enjoyed them all. This one is no exception! Your playing, performance and choice of material is always good.
One of the things I've noticed is consistently good sound reproduction. It looks like you are using a single can mic. Would you mind sharing some information about your system?
The group I play with plays a lot of outdoor stuff, farmer's markets and hiking trail grand openings, but we have yet to find a sound system that meets our needs.
Thanks, Jeff

My "system" for recording is a Zoom Q3 bought used off Craigslist for $75.
Now if you are asking about the PA, two Behringer 12-inch powered speakers (also bought used), an eight-channel Yamaha mixer ($100 new at Guitar Center) and a single condenser mic by Audio Technica and also, you guessed it, bought used.

Yes, the PA system was what I was interested in. It seems effective, and much simpler that what we have been using.
Thanks for the info.

Forgot to say that the guitar, which is inherently a quieter instrument, has a pick-up and is directly plugged into the mixer.

Wish I'd see more of this type of picking on our local sidewalks. Do passerbys throw in money into your case? I'd definitely give something!

We were paid by the store. We only do paying gigs and will NOT play for tips alone. Having said that, we made nearly $100 in tips from store patrons. I think we would have made more if the weather had been warmer as we were playing in a outdoor cafe area.

Wow, Dean! Your music must be truly appreciated there. Perhaps you can import some to northern California, but if you tour here you may have to support yourselves with welfare benefits first. Perhaps just a training video for us would be wise. Today is our monthly jam at a wonderful little coffee house in Marysville. We pay for our own coffee! Forgive my jesting. ![]()
