Do you have a story and/or a photo of a favorite pet that passed away ................I've owned many dogs over the years......Scruffy was one of them....... This is a small dog I had before my dalmation.....scruffy was as blind as a bat and finished up walking into the pool and drowning one day when nobody was around

Rodont. I will forever want a shiba because of him. He was an abused shelter dog and had a devilish grin.

We had a maltesse (SP?) that lived to be 19. She was a real member of the family and my sailing buddy for years. In her latter years, she was blind but still tried to stay by my side. Even though blind, she loved to ride, sail and still be a part of everything I/we did. Her passing tore me up. We now have 5 little rescue dogs, each one with a story to tell and a story that will break your heart.

My Childhood dog, Dalmatian named Baron. I still miss him to this day. We were inseparable.

My basset hound Charley.

I got him in Sicily when he was 7 months old and I was his third home. He was a total pain in the butt when it came to stealing toilet paper, dish towels, chocolate (even if it was in the back corner of the counter, he would push a chair over, climb into the chair, clean the chocolate up, and then hide), food in general, and pretty much anything he wanted.

One time I came home to find the tv on, banana peels and shredded toilet paper all over the floor, and I hear his dog door close. Turns out he climbed under the futon and pushed the beanbag chairs out of the way (we stuffed them under it to keep him in the area), shredded the toilet paper, grabbed 7 bananas and ate them without the peel, and then jumped onto the couch, hit the remote perfectly, and was watching TV while we were gone... I couldn't even be mad I was laughing so hard!

He definitely left me with a lot of great memories, including the first night I brought him home and he slept in my waterbed with me. Though it was more like neither of us slept because he wouldn't stop walking around on it to make it move (I swear he was laughing the whole time).

Two months ago I found out that he had bone cancer and put him to sleep a week ago when he simply got too sick to do much of anything. I miss the hell out of him. RIP baby!

Mikey, we had him 18 years.  He never lived in  cage he was free to roam the house.

When we would have an earthquake or he just got scared he would walk into the

bedroom saying "Hi Mikey" to wake me up so I could hold him until he calmed down.

This is my ol' buddy Swing. He was a mix between a greyhound and husky. When I first met Swing, he was the most destructive, yet the sweetest dog I had ever seen. I got a call at my grooming shop one day from a lady who asked if I picked up and delivered. We were a new shop and desperate for business back then (1994) and I said we did. I went to get the dog, brought him back to the shop, groomed him and took him home. When I got him back home the lady gave me a check. I was halfway back to my van when I looked at the name on the check; Edgar Martinez. I turned around, went back to the door and asked if that was THE Edgar Martinez; as in the reigning American League batting champion. She smiled and said it was. All of a sudden the name "Swing" made sense. I groomed Swing for four years. In that time he destroyed the interiors of two of the Martinez's cars, their yard more than once and found himself confined to a run more and more. One day the phone rang and it was Mrs. Martinez asking if I wanted Swing. She knew how much I liked him and that he was always so well behaved when I was around. She said that they needed to get him a new home, but were afraid that he would get bounced around from home to home or euthanized once people saw his behavior problems. She was right, so I took him. It took me about a year and a half of working with him to get him to be well behaved, but he became the best dog I ever owned. I already knew that he was the smartest dog I had ever seen. Once I left him at a kennel. When I came back to get him a week later, he was running free out in the kennel yard. I asked the kennel owner why and she told me that they put him in the kennel, but he figured out how to work the latch. So they padlocked the latch shut and when they came out the next morning, there was Swing outside the kennel. He figured out how to lift the kennel gate off the hinges. So they just let him run the yard the whole time. I really miss him.

This is "Runaway" our 26 year-old cat.  Mostly an outdoor cat her first 15 years or so, then about half out , half indoors,  but spent her nights in and usually in our bed.  I took this pic with my old phone a few hours before she comfortably passed in her own bed.  Its been a year and a half, and even now, posting in memory of this onery old cat, has brought a tear to my eye.   In a happier light my daughter's brought us "Downton Tabby" our new polydactal cat.

My wife says we talk about our animals because we don't have grandkids to talk about.

I've consequently got dog stories, cat stories, cockatiel stories, ferret and dippy-domie stories, horse stories, chicken stories, goat stories, peacock stories...  Paul Stroud has a lot of animal stories, too, including Susie stories.  I've never owned a pig, but one night got up and found 5 pigs going through my trash.  The neighbor took them in trade; they weren't wild.  All pets deserve a Hall of Fame!

PetCo is having a people hall of fame, but after reading some of the pet stories on this site, I'm just not qualified.  Loving and spoiling them just isn't enough.  The story about the Rainbow Bridge, and the one Mike Gregory told about walking past the Pearly Gates because they wouldn't let a dog in both deserve hall of fame.

This is a picture of 'joey' .....a pet kangaroo I reared by hand for 2 years back in the late 1960s........I released him into the wild near an old homestead in the ranges near canberra. The second photo is of joey near the same place . Whether joey survived the high country winters I will never know. But it sure would be a blessing if he did.

orphan baby kangaroos are much like human babies and must be hand fed from a bottle using a special formula designed for marsupials..............the pouch was an experiment but proved satisfactory......a hessian sack suspended from the wall, with a soft woolen blanket material inside and an electric blanket behind ( I used one designed for home brewers).......plenty of patience is required.
