Hi Folks,
This was Dave Gregory's idea and it's a good one.
Since posting the TVS song Loretta, I've noticed a few Townes fans coming out of the woodwork (perhaps banjo players and Townes are a good fit?)
Anyway, go on, get it out of your system. Post a depressing Townes Van Zandt song here!
Here are two from me. One is on a guitar (is that allowed here?)
Cheers
Andy

I can't help but be a little choked up by the songs you guys have posted, all very well done. These four presentations carry a lot of feeling. It's quite something how powerful Towns song writing is.
Joe, that was real nice, and Andy, I'm sure just a guitar being used will not get you excommunicated from any hang out anywhere. Where do I send the money Abdul, that was a sweet sad song, as well, . . . . . . . . I'm going to go and find my Melon-collie now, and hug it.

That is a very fine effort dave. I've been watching a few of your films on youtube and you really use the highway racing past shot to great effect. Really cool stuff. Great picking as well. Go hug that collie.

I am a big fan of Townes.
Living in Austin, Townes and his old "buds', Guy Clark, Steve Earl, .... are still a big part of the music culture.
Thanks for your post.

Ok what the heck, I'll jump on board.
These are old files, but they fit the bill...

Also, in my neck of the woods, you never see someone smoking inside anymore - reminds me of the good old days!

LOL I understand. The video was made at the guitar player's house and they smoked non-stop. I quit smoking cigarettes in 1986, and that much smoke kills me these days. My home is smoke free :)
Nice thread. Towne's stuff always lends itself to acoustic instruments like this ![]()

Thanks - i'm looking forward to seeing a few more posts. Makes a change from BG. In fact i'm working on another one this morning.
I quit years ago as well but sometimes miss the days of my youth, puffing away in pubs, pint in hand.
I think i'm romanticising though - i can also remember waking up feeling like i was going to die!

It was nice to hear one of the less sad songs by Towns. Definitely a smoking version.

Smokin' version indeed! Andy, I also quit years ago, but find myself getting nostalgic about lighting one up while enjoyed a pint or two (or three!) I can also remember waking up feeling like an elephant had taken up residence on my chest!
Frank, really dig your picking!

Here's my final Townes song for the timebeing.
I'm not used to playing in D (shame on me) or in 3/4 (shame on me)!
Cheers
Andy
