Followed by FANTASTIC voyage

Somebody SMART pointed out that, while Fantastic Voyage was FUN to watch, the basic PREMISE of a submersible being shrunk to the size of a large germ and injected into the body, to fix it from the inside, was a NO GO!

They explained it like this:

Take a HUGE ball of cotton candy, weigh it. For practical purposes, say it's a pound.

COMPRESS it a straight  as you can, into a column one inch by one inch by however tall.

Still weighs a pound. Stand it on end, and it exerts a presseure of ONE POUND per square inch on the tabletop.

Now, take a  vehicle large enough to hold a few people, and weigh it. Let's say it weighs a half ton.

If you COULD shrink it down to an inch by an inch by an inch, it would exert a pressure of one ton per square inch.

If 1/4 by 1/4 inch cube, it would exert FOUR TONS per square inch.

If the size of a large germ, the weight per square inch on the POINT where it rested on the table would cause it to DRIVE right down through the table, through the floor, and quite possibly to the approximate center of the Earth!
