A bunch of very nice versions, a great collection of styles.  Here is a version I recorded during a practice session back around 1998 or 1999, with my pals Brian Clancey on guitar, and Tom Speth on bass, backing me up.  I'm in open D tuning, aDF#AD.

Get down witcha bad self Don-cool. I liked that getty up and go version.

I used one of Beckyboy's backing tracks. The middle section is supposed to be rolling backup, but in retrospect I probably should have been up the neck to make it sound different from the rest

Matt, thats some very smoooth stuff and your tone is solid as a rock.cool

You might wish i hadn't done this tune, when you hear my version...LOL. After hearing these other guys nail it, I HAD to be differnt with it...my apologies in advance to the traditionalists amongst us, for my heresy.....tongue.

Seriously though, i have really enjoyed hearing these different spins on this tune. There's some great music on this forum sometimes!  We should make this a regular Sound-off theme. We can call it "Murdering the Classics" or somethin' like that. big

Banjophobic - Posted - 07/08/2012:  12:28:10

Alright, here's my take on the tune too. The Kidd added his usual fantastic drums/percussions,  funkadelic bass riffage and  some great mixing. It wouldn't have been the same without his work-thanks Kidd!

With so many killer versions already posted, i had to take my normal route and be different...coolblackeyebig

John, it's really hard to do something different on such a well-worn tune, especially when ten of us already took a swipe at it - but ya did it man!! Just excellent! And Kidd did some really cool bass riffs in there too, props to both of you!!

Well, Mr.  Boulding took us for a trip way outside the box there.  In fact, the box is not even in sight.  Actually, I'm not sure I remember the name of the box.  Great job John, with some very capable help from the KIDD.

Don Borchelt - Posted - 07/08/2012:  16:42:46

Now, that was some real cool jazz.  I think I'll just lay back and listen again, and pour myself another expresso!

Hey Gang, on behalf of the phobmeister, thanks for your support regarding our arrangement of the tune.approve Talk of his version started about a week ago and I could feel something wild was brewin...big..He hit me with 2 SMEEOKIN banjo  tracks in dropbox on SAT and #2 was the one I picked. He wanted to stay with the "less wild" #1 (but it was wild enough.big) but we said, LETS GO FOR IT. So I began comin up with drum parts and LP to match his syncopation, then jammin out with it on bass, and he picked my first drafts of each instrument so we were able to post the next day!..Yeah, this thread has been very enlightening for sure...We come to know our fellow pickers in a special way sharing arr's of the same tune where our differences are celebrated instead of ostracized. Id like to see a few more postings guys!

Alright-welcome to the Black Mt Rag club Ken ! That was mighty fine.yes

rickhayes - Posted - 07/10/2012:  08:41:59

Good addition Ken.  And kudos to Janet for the CH rendition.  I tried to work up something clawhammerish but my limited CH skills left my attempts well short of what Janet submitted, especially those melodic runs.

tofte32 - Posted - 07/10/2012:  09:49:38

That's it Kenny good effort learning by ear is always the best way to remember a tune!smiley
