I used to play (and still like) my Shelor picks, but nothing beats the Yates picks - I have two sets of them. Great service, fast shipping, and the little can they come in helps me keep my Yates picks and Blue Chip thumbpick together. Great job, Warren!

I had to do it. Got a like new pair from a fellow HO member. Not to over hype these picks, but...............they are very nice and do have their own sound. The feeling I get and the sound that I hear are similar to what I felt and heard the first time I rode in the passenger seat of an original 69 Boss 302 Mustang. Clean and powerful.



Every Yates banjo owner should have at least one pair. I do still like and use older USA Nationals and also drive a well preserved and nicely maintained 1993 Nissan truck.

OK. I have had the picks for almost a week. I really like them! I'm not ready to sell my shelors, but I'm not selling the yates either! I think I will rotate them. I really like how the yates sound. My wife also prefers them to the shelors. Well done again Warren!

I bought a set of picks as well.Mr Yates was very pleasent to deal with.However,I have to admit I was disappointed.Maybe it was the hype that gave me high expectations .I was looking for more from these picks and its not there.More of a bass/fuss tone is what is coming out. I'm trying the several different methods that I know .Hopefully I'll come up with the combo needed to get the sound I want. I'm playing a 1990 Granada which sounds/plays good. Mr Warren said I could send them back if I didn't like them.I plan on keeping them and giving them a chance. My 2 cents worth.

I've learned that whatever Warren makes is going to be good, so I decided to give the Oval 8s a try.  I can't believe what a difference these picks make in the comfort, fit and ease of playing.  I've been using mostly 41s or some 70s - 80s Nationals, but  the Yates picks are like a custom fit on my fingers right out of the can, and the tone improvement is definitely noticeable. Every angle and curve is perfect, and it makes playing everything more enjoyable.

There are several names for it. The main thing is they are the exact same formula as the old Nationals. They are shaped just like them too. The angle is already adjusted for tone and it seems that they fit about 90% of the pickers as they are.

I have been playing the new picks for a few weeks, I really like them!    I have shelors also, I like these a little better.  Seems like big money for a set of picks but I would do it again if I lost these.

I just got a new set, came in the mail today. I have been using the same set of picks for 12 years. They don't match and I couldn't tell you what brand either of them are. I hope to try them out tonight some.

I played for about an hour last night with the new fingerpicks.
I had no idea what I had been missing out on. I would go so far as to call them transformative.
It just never occurred to me fingerpicks could be a critical aspect, I mean they all pretty much the same.
So help me it made me think of Earl, Sonny, and JD Crowe, playing those historic banjos.
A knowledgeable friend told me a week or so people will pay up to $500 for a set of old Nationals (I believe that is the brand he said).
I have learned some cool things this year, I would place this at the top of the list.
