I don't feel it's fair that people who take the time and patience to write and upload tabs onto the Hangout should see them pushed right down the "Newest Tabs" list by people who insist on putting the "same" tabs on then taking them off over and over again, I'd say as well as being very selfish it's bordering on the weird. It's as if they have some kind of compelling urge to be "The Tabwriter" and dismiss other peoples work,... it's needless ,discourteous and as I've already said weird and the person / people should be discouraged from carrying on this practice. and do what everybody else does and just leave them on the Tabs list or Homepage.........simple !

Where is the New tab list??

answerguru - Posted - 05/08/2012:  05:55:19

That list is here: banjohangout.org/w/tab/browse/...njo/tabs/

(I didn't know it existed either, until I went looking)

If folks are doing what Banjowen suggests, that is pretty weird.  It's one thing if the tab was improved or updated, a whole other if they're just doing it to be at the top of some list.

May Internet fame and fortune follow your great tab submissions!  ;)

Fathand - Posted - 05/08/2012:  06:08:05

Thanks I finally found the newest additions button after following your link then going to the tab archive front page and hunting for it. I wonder how many other readers didn't know this existed before this thread. I usually just see all the tabs posted on the BHO Home page with all of the new forum posts. I usually just use the search box if looking for a specific tab.

That issue has been noted by a few other people too.

some folks have a very large ego, probably in return for having something else that is much smaller than normal.

OSCAR82AA - Posted - 05/08/2012:  12:10:32

I have often wondered this same thing.

If the tabs are new and changed well that is all good , but if they are the same and posted again and again to be on top.

That is kinda weird. I appreciate the tabs but come on.

Don Borchelt - Posted - 05/08/2012:  12:32:22

Well, I agree that it is definitely strange, and I can see how it also results in some inconvenience for others.  But all on all, I really think that it is better for the BHO to have them posted now and again, than not to have them posted at all.  A lot of members find them useful.  We all struggle with our demons on occasion.  If you haven't yet, you will someday.

Wait...you mean there are people who keep pushing their free tabs every chance they get? Say it ain't so!

banjoy - Posted - 05/08/2012:  21:49:53

LOL. I have noticed the same thing in the SoundOff section. Some folks want to have a tit-for-tat virtual conversation via their music post, which has the effect of increasing the number of posts, and keeping the tune bumped to the top, just for posts which say "thanks" and things like that. It's almost funny.

I prefer to let my posts die a natural death. It's a little more honest I think? I'm not sure if tabs work the same way. but it sounds like it does...

No need for sarcasm my friend.... there's more than one guy who takes the time to upload there free tabs, are you saying that they don't matter.

Don, I always value your opinion but I disagree, if "everybody" kept putting the same tabs on then off then on again the newest tabs list would be in a right mess......and also rather boring, I can't see any point whatsoever for doing so, why not just leave them on, as someone has already pointed out could it be there inflated ego's. I think we should encourage people to write tabs but it must be disheartening to see there work just pushed way down the newest tabs list by the same people posting the same tabs over and over again, perhaps a way which would be acceptable would be just to upload a couple of tabs at a time rather than several all at once....I'm just trying to be fair here.

theoutlaw - Posted - 05/09/2012:  05:27:29

I don't much use the tab's section but sounds to me like your making something out of nothing. If you rely on tab's then surely the more the merrier?!  Just play that banjo and let off some steam ; )

That would be a real problem if everybody did it, but everybody doesn't do it, just one guy does it.  About once every couple of months or so.  So it is not a real problem.  The little bit of periodic theatre works for him, as odd as it seems to us, and it only inconveniences the site a little bit.  It may be different, but it works out well enough.

I personally believe that a simple principal should govern this site.  We cannot have too much participation, and no one should be discouraged from participating.

I guess your probably right Don,.. as we say up north in the UK  "There's nowt as quare as folk"...if the guy gets a kick out of being weird, we should perhaps feel a little sorry for him..........case closed.

I use to follow the discussions on the Tab section, but it is very rarely that I go to the Newest additions. If I want to look at a tab I usually go by the alphabetical register or by a link from the discussion. I don't think it is a big thing if one  or two persons put on and put off the same tabs regularly, you don't have to see it if you don't want.

Mainly pronounced as above in Lancashire and Yorkshire, especially towns like Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton etc..

I agree if you're after a particular tab of which you know the title of the alphabetical register is the way to go, but it's good  to see new and different tunes instead of the usual old chestnuts that most members have saved to there computers anyway.

Especially to Owen and Don Borchelt,

I am quite disappointed to see your posts. The reason I post some tabs over and over is because I make adjustments to them and the way Eric has the site set up is to push the tab to the top. Also, some people don't see tabs in the archive section of this site and I re-post them. Do you really believe that I'm so desperate to be at the top of this heap as it now stands?

I am especially upset that Don Borchelt who's work I have respected for years is behaving in this hateful mannerdead. What is your problem with me Don? Not enough control as you seem to need lots of it? Banjowen seems to like to complain about everything if he gets an opportunity dead

Others have also put on 30 to 40 tabs a day and no complaints were filed. But I do get your points and I know when to take my leave. Don, you should learn to behave my friend and not be so petty and childlike as you often dominate the Chat Room with your playing and I certainly never objected as I enjoy your work.

Nevertheless my tabs are gone save one...Thanks for the kind words folks...Jack Baker   p.s. yes I know what comes next in this thread so please, let's not extend this thread into mindless prattle. You've acomplished what you wanted...

BHO used to be such a great place to visit and contribute to, I'm disappointed that this vitriolic attitude is set by a few who do nothing but complain whenever they get their chances.

Well, Jack, I for one am sorry to see you go. I don't know the back story here, or any of the personalities involved, and I don't see what the problem is with posting revisions over and over. To me, getting things perfected takes time.

It never bothered me to see your posts. I didn't really keep up, but what I did see down through time, seemed to me you were pretty clear in explaining revisions etc. I've seen your posts in other areas of BHO and my take is that you are always trying to be helpful. You seem to jump in threads from time to time and say what is needed, and then you're gone. But my take is, it has always been from a center of being helpful, and not ego.

I enjoyed knowing that you cared enough to do it. I don't know you personally so I can't speak to your ego, but even if is some ego thing or whatever, honestly, who cares? What difference does it make? You have been an asset to BHO.

Thanks for your posts, your work and for being a part of BHO. I appreciate you.

Banjowen, it's funny how you whine and complain about others who whine and complain, and you seem to feel justified in doing so. Here's an example where you belittle others for having fun, for going off topic, which is exactly what you did here. You're busted.

Heck, you went way off topic here in your own thread -- don't you -- then in another thread.whine about others for doing the same thing. Interesting.

In this thread, you whine and complain about something that's free. All that you complained about, is that how Jack posted his tabs, doesn't suit your fancy. That's it?

Who cares? How mean spirited of you. Pretty shallow of you.

Hey there Banjowen.

Nothing about like or dislike. I don't even know you. You're probably a nice guy, I don't know. You could be a terrible guy, don't know.

I don't like what I've seen you do (there is a difference). What I've seen has been mean spirited. And I've said so.

It's an open forum, you can post anything you like in any fashion you choose. So can I.

Have a great weekend, FWIW.

jbaker7 - Posted - 05/16/2012:  10:47:17

Hi Don,

I sent you a personal note and explained that my beef is not with you playing in the Chat Room. I do not like being constantly attacked by certain very nasty people in this thread who are always complaining about something; here and elsewhere.

My blurb about you playing in the Chat Room was a clumsy attempt to stop the attack on my posting tabs and doing a takeover of the tab archive. I felt you were joining in the feast on me. I gave the reason earlier in this thread and I recently sent it to you via a private email.

The real problem with my tabs or anybody's tabs re-appearing so often and being bumped to the top of the list is because whenever I make an adjustment to them, they get bumped to the top of the list. This is a problem which I hope Eric can fix at some point in time.

I have respected your contributions to BNL and your playing for a very long time Don and still do. The attack on me continues on the tab and discussion thread. It is no fun being part of this site any longer and I regret that.  .."If Music Be The Food Of Love Play On"....yer friend as always...Jack   p.s.

Not true. Depends on how you do it.

When I update a tab, I just bring up the tab for edit, then trash-can the tab attachment (tef, pdf, file) etc. , then upload the new file attachment. This updates the tab without bumping it up on the Newest page. Only if you completely delete a tab and upload a new tab in its place does it show up at the top of the Newest page.

I wish someone would have informed me how to do this rather than attack, or at least ask why I kept re-posting first, as that was never my intention...but thanks a lot Mick...Jack  p.s. you may have prevented WW3 cool

Mick,

Your technique for editing a tabs works only if the tab/s already exists?...I edited FMB and it worked. But I cannot add a new tab directly to the alphabetical tabs list without it being added to the "newest tabs archive" first. Is that correct?...thanks again...Jack

Be warned, Folks are getting wise to you and your activities.

Hi Mick,

Thanks again for showing me how to update a tab without messing up the tab list order...I did it with Liberty. I'm very sad we lost Doug Dillard.

I still remember talking with him a few times by telephone when I did one of his tabs for BNL several years ago. He was so kind and fun to talk with...Jack
