I heard Tim O'Brien sing this old song and thought I'd try and work up an arrangement.
This was another co-operation with The Kidd who did the audio mix on it. Seems quiet here lately - how's everyone doing?

Thanks Doub, I love those minor tunes too, I think the banjo really comes into its own on those tunes. I also like the sus2 voicings, sort of playing 'in between' major and minor.

Dang, that was (as the kids say) the bomb! Very cool tune, and great picking per your usual.

Intricate, sensitive picking. Tim O'Brien does everything well, too.

Yeah, the when the L Man hit me with this Im like, OH BOY, Ill have a field day with my FX rack on this riffage!
..I had it runnin through a Leslie, Flanged, Boomeranged delay (reverse gated..
) BUT, I realized a piece like this needed to stand on its own dynamic personality so I just added some Hall Verb to soften it up alittle, and normalize the DB ratio a bit. Always a pleasure being involved in BL production!

Smooth and clean, some really thoughtful, intense, evocative picking. If we could still give out stars, I would give ten!
tomberghan - Posted - 02/08/2012: 19:54:31
That was damn good Laurence! The second ending was a little Country Joe and Fish! :-)
MrHoney - Posted - 02/08/2012: 21:05:30
That was amazing! Very interesting stuff going on there. The ending was the cheery on top! Nice recording...

Hey thanks guys! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. If the ending seems a little dramatic, get a load of the last stanza of this song:
Well the working season ended
But the drover would not pay
He said "You spent your money boys
You're all in debt to me".
But the cowboys never put much stock
In a thing like a bankrupt law
So we left that drovers bones to bleach
On the range of the buffalo
Good stuff eh? I think Woody Guthrie and Dylan also covered that song, but Tim O'Brien does a great job on it.

I'll go look up Tim's version. Thanks for the tip. I love the song. The first time I heard was by Jim Kweskin back in the mid sixties. He did a great job as well.

Yeah Tom, it's on Fiddlers Green - the whole album is pretty good, I think you would like it.

While that too was a totally awesome ending as well, I think you made the right choice. Your ending fits just a tad better.
Too funny!!! Sorry I'm so late hearing it.
