Has anyone ever tried dying a skin head that was already waterproofed?  Does it work at all?  Seems like if the waterproofer is doing it's job, the stain wouldn't take?  Thought I'd ask before removing my head and trying it--might save myself some trouble.

I've never tried it and cant answer.  But I'm linking this to the Hide Heads group page for extra attention.  banjohangout.org/group/hideheads

Never tried it,but I woulnt do it--- most waterproffing stuff made today work well-
take it from one who has had disasters like this--

Well...I tried it.  As I suspected, the waterproofing did not mean that the hide was "impervious" to water.  I soaked it in HOT coffee for about 10-12 minutes.  It did not come out as brown as I was hoping, but it is more interesting to look at than the white (IMO).  If I had it to do over again, I would soak it in coffee before applying the waterproofer.

Did you get it re-mounted OK?

I think so.  It was REALLY frustrating, but it is mounted.  I have one small spot of 1/4" that is not tucked, do you think that will be a problem?

I'm interested in this coffee stain idea. Any chance you can show before and after pictures?

Too late for before pictures (they would be the same as the off-white skins on Bill Miller's website, banjoseen.com).  I will try to post some after pictures tonight.  It gives it the look of "older" skin.

I don't know if one small un-tucked area will be a problem.  I hope not.

Good luck with it.
