I have not seen this discussed yet...just got back home to Hiawassee, GA and when I checked the mail, I found that Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver grace the cover of the June Bluegrass Unlimited AND front row center is Dale Perry holding his Hatfield banjo!
Great to see this for Arthur and to know he is getting such well-deserved publicity...I should add that Buck Creeek #33 is now about 3 and 1/2 years old and sounds great!
Again, congrats to Arthur (and Bev) on this - I don't think there has been a Hatfield on the cover of BU, though I may be mistaken...

It's about time. Arthur is making some mighty fine sounding banjos with top quality craftsmanship. And there's not a nicer, more personable fella in bluegrass music. His banjos deserve the attention and the credit.

Great for Arthur !
Is the photo several months old or is Dale back with Doyle again?

Glad you scanned that, Tim...if you have it as a high resolution photo, it would be good for a frame at a prominent place on Arthur's trophy wall!

I just pulled it off the web... yeah Arthur needs a good copy.

I just scanned and will copy to good quality photo paper...then get to Arthur on my next trip to Burton Ridge.

P.S. of course, scans of this nature show all imperfections - fingerprints on glossy finish, dots making up images, etc...but still as a print should make a good momento.

All I know is that when my ship comes in I am buying me a Hatfield Aurora.
pipefitter61 - Posted - 05/30/2011: 09:21:00
That Celebrity is sure 1 good sounding banjo in Dales hands!
Kurt Kemp - Posted - 05/30/2011: 09:34:42
I thought he played an Aurora too? I know Jessie Baker plays one now.
Arthur Hatfield - Posted - 05/30/2011: 10:23:11
Thanks guys for the compliments and thanks Bill for making me aware of the article about Doyle. I didn't even know about it. I do know that June issue of Banjo Newsletter has a good article about Tom Boyd and he had some good things to say about my banjos. Kurt Jesse is playing the same Aurora pot that Dale was. Dale broke the original neck and while I had the banjo I let him take a Celebrity and play it and he got attached to the Celebrity and decided to keep it so Jesse wanted the Aurora which I'm sure he had already seen and played while Dale had it.

BNL and BU both the same month! That's some 'tall cotton' there, Arthur!
But, well deserved! Enjoy - you have certainly earned the recognition.

Arthur,
Does the Celebrity that Dale has now have a Hatfield tone ring?
Tim
Kurt Kemp - Posted - 05/30/2011: 14:37:13
That was going to be my question as well. I like the Ebbe ring. Which banjo is he using on the Teddy Bear revival tune/album? That's a good sounding banjo.

Arthur Hatfield - Posted - 05/30/2011: 16:07:48
Tim yes the Celebrity Dale has is one of my 20 hole rings. Kurt the Light On My Feet and Ready To Fly CD is the Aurora with an Ebbe ring same pot and ring Jesse is playing now.
Kurt Kemp - Posted - 05/30/2011: 16:28:09
Thanks Arthur, I love that thing! Like I say, when my ship comes in...

Arthur,
Do these banjers come with a free bag of popcorn? ![]()
Gary
Arthur Hatfield - Posted - 05/30/2011: 17:17:30
Gary if you buy a banjo I will sure send you a free bag of popcorn. Popped or unpopped or burned or not burned but I may have to try 3 or 4 times to get the unburned.
eagleisland - Posted - 05/30/2011: 17:41:10
Hey Arthur - did you get the message I left last week? I'll touch base Wednesday or Thursday.
dgill - Posted - 05/30/2011: 17:53:39
Congrats Arthur, it is great to see you getting the recognition that you have earned. It is no surprise to anyone that knows you or your banjos though. Both are top notch in my book.
Yellowhouseroad - Posted - 05/30/2011: 18:48:31
I saw the Hatfield banjo there when I got my issue. I thought Jessie Baker was now playing banjo for Doyle Lawson. Or is this just an older photo?
Arthur Hatfield - Posted - 05/30/2011: 18:48:44
Skip yes Bev gave me the message Donnie are you going to the Osborne Bros. Festival in Hyden. Ky the first weekend in August.
