I see there's an edit in his very first post, and I can't know what that edit removed or changed. So I'm sorry if it's what you're referring to, KIDD. Point out to me, please, where he attacks your character, and where the unfair characterization lies in these posts. What I see is someone not knowing the full story behind your history on this site (how could he?), and taking your video the wrong way. He addresses it in a civil manner, and in the rest of his posts goes out of his way to explain himself. And right off the bat, you're throwing him in with those who want you off this site.

Sorry I've been throwing poser and troll around more loosely than I should. I have nothing against you, or anyone who supports you. Heck, in another situation, I'd be supporting you. But my support isn't unconditional. I give it when it's deserved. Not that anyone should care if I support them or not...I don't think that highly of myself. But if someone I like and respect is wrong, I won't defend them in their wrongness. I'll defend them personally and their character, but not their choice in that situation.

Anyway, here are his posts. Again, let me know if the edit took out the part that set you off. In that case, I'll back off.

I don't agree with the spirit of the song at all. The purpose of a forum is to provide a place for open discussion of ideas, and the song seems to suggest that people who are not as talented and don't play as well have less of a right to express their opinions, and I can't get on board with that.

I know some of you who liked this video are really decent people and you are able to take this as light-hearted and if you feel that way I can only attribute it to your own good nature and your ability to see the best in others.

I think it is possible to be clever and funny and talented without going this route, and I hope the KIDD will use his considerable talents to produce something that is really funny that doesn't run the risk of hurting someone else's feelings in his next venture.

Hey All,

I assure you that I have no intentions beyond trying to promote an attitude of mutual respect on the forum. I have nothing against the KIDD and if there is some kind of conspiracy to get him off this site I unaware of it and certainly not part of it.

Apparently there is some kind of official Poser group that consists of seventeen members and has been in existence since January, but this is not a common bit of knowledge, and without that piece of information the video comes across in a way other than it was intended.

One of the site guidelines is that we're supposed to avoid things which can be misconstrued or misunderstood, and clearly that's what happened here. I wrote my previous post with a slow hand and tried to look at the video from every which way to see if there was another meaning that I was missing, but clearly this was an inside joke and I was an outsider.

Inside jokes are fine, but if you're going to post them publicly then it would be helpful to give the rest of some kind of heads up or this kind of misunderstanding is inevitable.

For the record, I’m not part of anybody’s posse, nor am I trying to get anybody ousted from the website. Like most of you, I’m here to be part of a community of mutually supportive web-friends who share a common interest. If there are misunderstandings or sincere differences of opinion, I think it’s important that we resolve them in a courteous fashion that leaves everyone’s feelings intact when it’s over.

As a gentle reminder, the guidelines of this site encourage us to be careful not to post material that can be easily misunderstood, and that while it’s okay to debate a concept it not okay to criticize a person.

Hey KIDD, I already offered to take it offline. I'm just posting again in response to your posts. A quote from you: "Your further posting proofs you tryin to convince others your right..Why dont ya let THEM read and make up thier own minds." Agreed.

Yes. I'm very much posting to convince people that I'm right about the idea that you going after Dan is unfounded. If I simply didn't care, I wouldn't have posted.

By the way, my long winded post up there was in the process when you posted "let's agree to disagree", so I didn't see that post until after I hit "post". Not saying it necessarily would have changed anything...but that's that.

Yeah its been edited...We still disagree. Ill stick with my friends here who support my position, you can do the same. This thread has made it obvious enough after 4 pages where we stand. I have no doubt you and your buddy SB will continue this but Ive got 3 project happenin on Sound off with John B, Jim Reed, and Joemac I HAVE to get to.

Yeah, I agree with Laurence, its all about being passionate. I try to get along with everyone, but I dont have much time or patients for these guys who are here to cause trouble (troll). The site is great for the most part, and I really hope it stays a positive environment. Trying to be mr nice guy is good, up to a point. But sometimes it good to stand ones ground and defend common sense thinking and against bad seed postings. Calling a spade a spade isnt what anyone should put as a top priority, but if its obvious that the site is being slowly poisoned by them, then its all of us regular hangout folks' duty to do it, when its called for. Its one thing to ignore them, and thats always the best move. But sometimes they just wont take the hint and its time to call them out. When all is said and done, the only people who get hurt is the ones who are trying to enjoy learning about the banjo and who try to wade through it all, to get the help and or support they need.
It doesnt matter to me what those types of posters think of me, after all its just the internet. When I turn off my computer, it gets left here. But when I am here, I try to enjoy it, learn something, help someone else learn something and being banjo player. Folks who like to pose and arent here for banjo reasons can do what they like-its a public forum. But dont expect everyone to roll over and play dead when you cause trouble.
The Kidds video is just his video commentary of the state of all this. Its no different than someones blog.

Wow. I guess if you're deranged enough to lump me in with how I thought you saw SB, then you are losing it! People come on and express geniune opinions that aren't you're own, on something that doesn't even have to do with banjo technique, and they're the enemy!? Well well, that's very interesting. You're not at all the person I thought you were...and I have to say that's very dissapointing.

Well, good luck to you in your endeavors, sir.

I think this thread has really opened my eyes. I'm still pretty new to the hangout, and maybe that lets me see it with fresh eyes. I am definately NOT in favor of people being disrespectful of pros, whether or not they are right. And I am also definately supportive of the real pros on the site (you know who you are ). I wasn't here when most of this stuff got started, but I can see what it has devolved into.

Whether or not you are correct in your views (which you are ) it really dosen't do any good to stir the pot, it only "feeds the trolls" if you know what I mean. Defending yourself almost always requires a bit of offense, and then the guy you are defending yourself against has to come back and defend himself in a never ending cycle of increasingly bitter posting. My advice (which I am in no way qualified to give) is that you DO NOT NEED to defend yourself. Everyone who is reading already knows whats REALLY going on, and if they dont, they can just listen to the soundoff files to see who's advice is WORTH listening to. The proof is in the pudding, and the truth is the only defense you need.

John Kunn (The Kidd) is my peer, partner, teacher and friend. He has more passion than most of us could even measure for sharing his experiances, knowledge and skills with the "just starting, novis, purty good and professionals" among us, if they so choose take part and those rankings just describe their banjo picking abilities. Their other strengths and attributes aside, which also defines them as great persons.

I personally do not see any separation between these groups of talents listed above. He offers to us something if we wish to take it. If not we can choose to walk on past it as well. I have many friends on here ranging from just starting to professional in status and I think they take me for what I am and for what I have to offer, which sure is not my banjo skills, but they accept me anyway. Although, I do have some and I am honing them daily. For this, I must mention, that I feel fortunate and am very thankful for what they allow me to share in with them.

My closing point is nothing more than this, I support John Kuhn as I do all of my banjo hangout friends. I do so freely and hope that those of my banjo hangout friends and other members, that do not agree with me don't just black ball me for having an opinion which may be different than their own. Some challenge and or conflict can be health if civility and respect is maintained by all.

Kidd,
Thanks for making the video version. The original song was good but the video is really good. Sorry for the way you had to be inspired. Unfortunately I can understand it more each week.

I would like to nominate you for BHO House Band. First, and all cannot help but to agree, the price is right. Banjo, guitar, bass, keyboards, and percussion all for the price of one: Can't get it cheaper than that. Second you can see that most of the people really like what you put out.

Well another interesting day and week in the BHO. i have read the entire post and based on being probably one of the newer members here I have to say that John Kuhn, John Boulding ( Banjophobic ), Banjov1, Just Bill, Lawrence Diehl Donnie Gill, and MANY others to extensive to name have welcomed me helped me improve my playing and confidence 10 fold. what this comes down to, is INTEGRITY. and in my opinion, as many have said when you question or better put CHALLENGE ( as many of the so called posers have done on their posts) those folks that have paid their dues and are recognized as the best in the biz, then you are wrong period. Spirited debate and questions are fine, but attacking, that is juvenile and ignorant at best. My playing is so new and green that we no longer have any wildlife in out neighborhood, but those mentioned above encouraged me to continue to post sound files, have critiqued them and THAT IS WHY I WILL CONTINUE to support them, thier businesses and their teachings.
A perfect point to this is John Kuhn and John Boulding, although my current learning is the Murphy Method, they never once bad mouthed it, nor discouraged me from it or tried to sell me on thier methods as many of the other posters on the Scruggs forum have, they simply stated that if it works for me keep using it. You know what when I am ready to take the next step in my learning I guarantee you it will be with them, why because they have INTEGRITY, EXPERT KNOWLEDGE and have made a total stranger on the Yankee side of the country feel like part of a larger community.
So to those that did not like the video, I am sorry, but take it as pure entertainment. In this silly world we are living in it is very nice to see a video that causes your to spew coffee all over your office. Belly laughs like that do not come around to often anymore and I for one loved it. Keep it up John!

I thought the video was incredible!

Sometimes things need to be said because people are thinking them, and it's so great when it's funny! No matter who you are you've had these feelings about the BHO...it's nice to see them reflected in a funny way.

THE KIDD is awesome!

The video was very impressive, I liked it. I do believe it was Oscar Wilde who once replied to an imposing reporters question, "If I say, Do or Write anything. It means exactly what "I" understand it to mean, and not your interpretation of what you think it means". End Quote. Oh and another thing, if it was'nt for you doing that medley thing of yours I would'nt have picked up that banjo of mine and started trying to play again (Ya Darned fool). Now Im annoying more people than ever, you got a lot to answer for. However you have nothing to answer for in respect of your opinion for this current topic and putting it forward in the manner you wish. Well done
