for you single string all-stars out there:

A little Bela demo video (w/ a little Victor Wooten at the beginning)
tying into exactly what Doub is exploring on his two videos about
the fluidity of the TIMTMITM forward/reverse eight note roll.

Cool video in case you missed it:

some one posted this somewhere..but I can't find the original post
I would like to credit the person who dug this up on Youtube...but I lost the thread (sorry who-ever ..but thanks anyway)

Béla is such a beautiful example of immersing oneself in one's goals, practice techniques, ideas, and then refining and tweaking them with a creative spark at the helm. No better man. Discipline. Growth.

thanks Tracy ... yeah .. this is inspirational for me ....
I'm working that idea over and over ... every day ... and the results are pretty good.

I was really impressed with the ryan cavanaugh posted ... it was an improv based around "angelina baker" ... in D ... mixed techniques with SS focus.

I've been "jamming" on the same tune daily ... and have been able to free improv in a fluid and smooth way .. that intermixes beautifully with scruggs style and melodic style improv.

I'm ALMOST ready to post some videos showing my progress to date ...

this playing the banjo thing is fun ....

yeah Tom ... couldn't agree more

Cloud and Fleck (...the last two interviewed in Trischka's and Wernick's book)

"New Directions" in banjo

I learn something new everyday...I play something I've never played before everyday.

Thanks for the help Doub, Pat, Bela, Ryan.

I should include Molly. Man knowing what she knows at such a young age.
Awesome.

you're kind Tracy ... like I said in another thread ... I don't belong in that list (and I think Molly would turn red in the face from embarrassment being mentioned in that group).

I'm learning a bunch from those other three guys tho !!!

I purposefully post videos of my struggles with these new techniques so that others can see the progress ... (tho it's tempting to polish things up to save myself the shame of sounding TERRIBLE while working thru them).
It has always helped me when better players allow me to see them work thru things ... it gives me the encouragement that ... maybe I can do it too.
