2 videos that show what is happening as I try hard to move from TITM dependent SS playing to a more fluid for-rev roll type of RH pattern.

no where near "there" yet, but I'm feeling as tho it's worth the effort.

started this in february ... and nothing was working ... now it seems to be taking hold.

a quick note .... Ryan C, Paddy, Tom H, and Mickey were involved in a thread a few months ago that got me interested in seeing if I could break away from the TITM dominated SS playing I had been practicing for years.

I found that using forward and reverse types of SS patterns were harder to get comfortable with (for me) but that the payoff is pretty good .... still in progress but moving along

Thanks for sharing Doub, looks hard.
Did you have to do anything to your right hand position or adjustments to your picks to accommodate doing rolls on the 4th and 3rd strings? (unfortunately I can't watch the video)

I'm not sure, Laurence ... I've been doing it so much that any hand angle change, etc has been kind of subconscious and automatic.

It was REALLY hard for me to break away from where I was ... basically throwing away my comfort zone.
But ... i'm glad I did ... I find that my bluegrass playing, tho a little rusty, is better for this practice as well.

I'm working on free wheeling thru fiddle tunes like "Whiskey...", "Fishers...", "Cuckoo's Nest", etc to see how well I can just think and play ... I'm trying real hard to not lean on rote memorization of finger patterns when playing tunes, but rather hearing a melody in my head and playing it at will.

I feel as tho I'm on the cusp of a major breakthru in my playing .... really fun ...

don't be surprised if I post next week ... feeling as tho my playing is as boring and uninspired as always

:)
