I just got back from the dentist where I had a molar extracted. This thing I've been trying to save for years and after 4 crowns and a root canal I lost the fight.
I'm still numb right now, my bottom lip feels like a big old hot dog and my chin is numb. You could hit me in the jaw right now and I wouldn't feel it. And I have a wet spot on the front of my shirt where I tried to take a drink of water and in ran down my chin.
I hate this hot dog lip feeling though. The Novocaine is wearing off and I have a feeling this isn't going to be a very good afternoon.

Lost all four of my wisdom teeth at the same time. It was a week of eating nothing but sooooooft grilled cheese sandwiches and tomoato soup. Still sore two weeks later.

I have an extra set of #20 (whichever the @@#$%^ those are). I had one removed 30 yrs ago. Having the other extracted next week. Orrrrrrr. I could just have em out the way most of the others have come out,.... playing hockey with no helmet on.... Whipped potatoes,... whipped,..not mashed. You can suck em through your teeth. I lived on those each time me and the dental gawds had issues.....

Four crowns and a root canal? I thought that the root canal and crown was the final solution for a bad tooth, probably should of had that baby out years ago ,but the dentist does have kids to put through college.

This tooth had a long history. It all started when I was in middle school in the early 70's. I had a bad cavity in that back molar and the dentist filled it. It was a huge filling. Then in 1993 I was eating trail mix and I chewed down on an almond and the tooth broke. That's when I got the first crown.
That crown lasted until about Y2K. I went home to visit my mother in Arkansas for Christmas and at the dinner table I was chewing on meat and I felt something in my mouth. The crown had come off.
I found a local dentist who had to put a new crown on because the tooth had some decay and needed some drilling. So crown number two. The dentist noted at the time that the decay was awful close to the roots but she was going to try to avoid a root canal.
3 years later I got such a tooth ache that I didn't know where it was coming from . The whole side of my head hurt and I thought it was the upper molar. The dentist sent me to an edodontist who found out the the old trusty bottom molar was necrotic and needed a root canal after all. He tried to drill through crown number two and do the root canal. But he found decay under the crown so he popped it off and did three canals (two roots). But guess what? Now my old crown (number two) didn't fit any longer.
So back to the dentist for crown number three. Number three kept popping off. There wasn't much tooth there to attach it to. I went to the drug store and got my own crown cement and got pretty good at popping it back on.
Meanwhile I changed dentist to the one I have know. Doctor Van is from Hawaii. She's of Asian descent and weighs about 110 pounds soaking wet. Doctor Van glued that crown on a couple of times and finally she told me that if I let her put a crown on that tooth it would last at least 5 or 6 years before it came off, and that it probably wouldn't come off. So I let her put number four on a couple of years ago.
Now a couple of weeks ago I go in for my bi-annual cleaning and the hygienist found a problem back there. Upon closer inspection by X-ray the tooth had fractured down at the roots. Bacteria had set up and there was an infection. Doctor Van said, "I'm so sorry. I promised you that crown would last and now the tooth has to come out."
So there it is. Doctor Van didn't charge me for the extraction. She submitted it to my insurance but there will be no co-pay on my part.
