Inniepie
Thank you very much. This fills a gap in my personal cookbook.
Something you'd like in trade? PM and ask.

I musta read this recipe 9 times now and I still don't see peanut butter anywhere in the ingredients list. There's an allusion to it in the method section...

I'd try a cup of peanut butter and see if that didn't work. I have a recipe similar to that and that's what it calls for.
I also have a recipe for Peanut Butter Cookies without any flour for those who can't eat flour, if anyone's interested, I'll post it.

For those of you with a digital scale, here's a version derived from the original Fanny Farmer and Betty Crocker recipes, my personal favorite:
57g butter
48g crisco
128g peanut butter (preferably Jif chunky)
100g sugar
110g light brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp coarse kosher salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
156g flour
Cream together the first 5 ingredients until fluffy. Incorporate egg and vanilla. Combine flour, soda and salt and add to creamed ingredients. Do not over mix.
Place rolled balls on cookie sheet and cross-cut with fork (as described in OP).
Bake @350 for 17 minutes.
Makes 24

How thoughtful! This must be the version for those with peanut allergies. Now remove the flour, and we have a recipe for those on a gluten-free diet with peanut allergies.

A worthy point. To which I'd add that salt is problematic for some people, and sugar is truly an issue for diabetics. Eggs contain a boat load of cholesterol, as does butter. Vanilla extract is carried in alcohol, a real problem for those for substance abuse issues. Baking powder contains sodium aluminum sulfate, sodium aluminum phosphate, and sodium acid pyrophosphate. I don't know what those are, but I don't like the sound of 'em.
You want your baking soda straight up or on the rocks?

Gram for gram, BIG SUGAR doesn't want you to know that powdered Stevia plant is sweeter.
