How do I convince my wife we really don't need another dog? Our chocolate just turned three, is finally exhibiting a few neurons of normalcy and life is good. She's done the research, likes the pedigree and wants this (I mean, check out the size of those feet!). I think I'm in trouble.

ncmedic - Posted - 02/02/2011:  07:18:07

Oh man, he's gonna melt hearts and wiggle his way in your home!
Don't try to fight it, you will lose.
Resistance is futile.
Great looking pup!

Tommy

Oh, by the way you will have to change your avatar for an addendum.
Sorry he or she is just too darned cute!

Of COURSE you need another dog!

Sorry, Pal! You're on your own this time. Your mistake was putting the picture up.

Does it have a name yet?

fivebranch - Posted - 02/02/2011:  07:50:15

It seems your wife has taken a few lessons from us guys on the hangout "Easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission" If it doesn't work out for you, just like a free banjo, I'm sure someone will step up and take him/her in. INCLUDING ME......OH YES.......GOOD LOOKING PUP!!!

michael6 - Posted - 02/02/2011:  07:56:58

Looks like another addition to the family!

dawgdoc - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:00:36

Its been a rough year for us. We lost three sleddogs (all over 16, so understandable, albeit sad) and my German Shorthair died of torsion. Our beloved black lab is 9 and the dumb chocolate lab is three. Maybe it is time to start destroying furniture again. My wife went to visit the pups last night and I literally refused to go, but the idea got implanted.

And no, Fig, I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER CAT! We have two and while they seem to adore me, I really find them a complete pain in the arse.

figmo59 - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:05:33

HA!............;-)

pandjlocke - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:07:05

You're just gonna LOVE! your new puppy. Your wife is a wise woman. Listen to her. Heck, chewed up stuff ain't nuthin' but stuff anyway. I wouldn't have half the funny stories of total destruction if it hadn't been for all the labs in my life. Dang, that's cute.

Gomer - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:09:49

Enjoy your new addition. Your objections are DOA

dawgdoc - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:35:06

I'm screwed. Apparently we have an appointment this evening and I HAVE to go and see the pups.

I was all fired up to adopt a greyhound, but research and you guys convinced me that it wasn't appropriate for us, so a new pup is not really a major life crisis.

Just tell your Spouse that you are the " Bull Elephant" of the household soooo all major decisions belong to you period.
So Bull or Elephant should be considered as a nice puppy name for her new friend lol......come on admit it the decision has been made........

As a pup, my current Lab ate two cell phones, three computer mice, God only knows how many square feet of paper towel and bath tissue, the console cover and shift knob in my truck, and other items too numerous to mention.

He's worth all of it, and then some. And I know he's approaching twilight, and I'm starting to give serious thought to doing it all again.

fivebranch - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:58:14

Labs are the best dogs in my opinion why else are they the number one dog in America. Never had a bad lab just some with a bad habit. But my wife and I have yorkies the number 3 dog in America. House to small for "Rufus Mac Butter-worth" (my pet name for Labs)

banjowannabe - Posted - 02/02/2011:  08:58:59

Maybe you could use Photoshop to make the puppy look evil. Then Google a bunch of articles on dog attacks, print em out, and leave them around the house. Put dog doo on your shoes and walk around the house. Those are the only ideas I could come up with to delay the inevitable.

dflowers - Posted - 02/02/2011:  09:06:38

The best thing we ever did was get a companion dog for our Lab/Shepherd female. They are inseperable.

yeah, that'll work I've had sleddogs for 20 years. There's always dog poop somewhere on shoes and the floor. And come on, it's a lab, the only attacking they do is slobber on the floor. Our labs would open the door and invite robbers in....seriously, we have to deadbolt the doors to the house because Kona (avatar dog) learned to open door knobs.

Question is.....do you want to be in the doghouse??

mike gregory - Posted - 02/02/2011:  11:11:43

If he's got Bigfoots, name him Yeti.

And, Eagleisland, that pic with the horns & fangs DID get me to laugh out loud.

A wonderful effort. However, she still thinks it's cute.

jwgreene01 - Posted - 02/02/2011:  12:48:51

So what did you name him?

Slick Salmon - Posted - 02/02/2011:  13:30:39

Two dogs are three times as much work as one dog. They also tie you down to the point that it's hard to travel anywhere. No one wants you to show up at their place with two dogs in tow. So the cost of travel increases by the number of days you have to board them. It also puts a greater premium on continuous training, because they start exhibiting pack behavior if you're not in control.

Two dogs? We already have significantly more than that

shut up, shut up, shut up.

Hey Pad,
You'd appreciate this. We have some folks coming by the house to do some work, so needed to get the two labs out of the house for the day. My wife dropped them off at a doggie day spa. Good grief, I asked if massages were included (jokingly) and they said sure. My idea of a dog bath is going for a swim in the creek. If they come back with colored toe-nails I wouldn't be surprised. I bet they're watching Oprah and sipping a martini.

Oh, what a surprise. I sure didn't see THAT coming. Wow.

Seriously, Willow is a great name for that really, really cute little puppy. Have fun with her!

pandjlocke - Posted - 02/02/2011:  18:15:29

I'm shocked! . . . shocked!. OK, not that shocked. I wish you well with her. She is CUTE.

1four5 - Posted - 02/02/2011:  18:51:13

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The more dogs you have the less you have to travel places you didn't want to go anyways. It also limits the people who visit you to dog lovers and true friends. They exhibit pack behaviour take over your house, and order the lowest pack members to go to the pet store for rawhide and Milk Bones.

Read into this, "how do I convince my wife that she has picked a pup that I really want but can't be seen to cave in straight away"

dmiller - Posted - 02/02/2011:  19:47:12

That there is the (new/ revised/ updated) Webster's definition for "white noise".

Congrats on the new family member. Keep your banjos in their cases!

Similarly: some of you may remember that I lost a cat just before X-mas. Well, I have started to look around. Fell for a polydactylic black smoke Maine Coon kitten, unfortunately already adopted. My daughter was in favor of TWO kittens, though I'd sworn I'd never have three cats again. (And that's not counting my daughter's rambunctious young cat who loves to knock all the books off the shelves, including those in MY home office.)

Recognize all the things y'all have been talking about, especially the cost of veterinary care and boarding dogs. (My cats don't get boarded, but Ilyusha the dog has to. The only time we tried keeping him home, he chewed up the cat door to the patio.)

Well, accept my congratulations and wish me luck. This could be my last cat/kitten, and I've always wanted a Maine Coon.

dawgdoc - Posted - 02/02/2011:  20:40:56

Thanks. Willow is actually an important name to me. Nearly 20 years ago I had this gorgeous black sleddog named Willow. She died very young of an accidental eating a wool glove. My kennel is officially named Black Willow Kennels in her honor. I said some day the name would carry on. Today it did. She's already pointing duck wings and driving the cats insane. I'm such a softie for puppy breath.

Yeti is the Abdominal Snowman, not Bigfoots.

If the pup has Bigfoots, let him be baptized "Sasquatch." (Or were you like me, Mike -- uncertain how to spell "Sasquatch"?)

Who can pass up a face like that!

My last dog came from looking at a photo, followed by the comment "maybe we should just go look"

Oops! Neither did I.
