I think it's just through general ignorance by posters, but large photo sizes in topics do not play well with many browsers.

There really is nothing to be gained on most posts by the addition of multi-meg picture sizes and widths beyond 640 pixels. It also has a number of other negative results such as a viewer having to scroll repeatedly left to right to read the text, slow load times for topics (even on broadband connections) and usage of server capacity.

It seems that it might be a good idea to limit photos to a web-friendly size and that way it would make the hangout a much more enjoyable experiance. This is really particularly apparent in topics in the building and repair forum where there are tons of photos documenting a particular build.

Is it just me that sees this as being mildly aggravating?

Seems like that would have to be something on the server side. A lot of people are lucky to figure out how to connect their cameras to their computers, let alone resize their photos to a screen-friendly size.

Also, I'm usually really glad to see high-resolution photos because the detail is so much better. YOu can always right-click and choose view-image if you want to see the whole image at once w/o scrolling.

We already set it up so you can attach photos to posts. If you do it this way, you'll never have the problems you're talking about above.

Problem is, some members include images in their actual posts, for whatever reason. That's where the problem lies. I would suggest simply telling them they should attach the pics instead of putting them in their post.

I like the large pictures. You can see much more detail. I find the thumbnail sized pictures more annoying.

I agree, I find BIG images annoying too.

That being said, I like to include the image right in the post so it's there to see, and you don't have to open the attachment. I think there is more of a chance that people will actually look at it, if they don't have to click on a thumbnail to view it. I just make sure the image is a reasonable size. If it's a big image, I just attach it.
