Obviously you can play the G songs. You can also play the A songs of you capo at the 2nd fret and capo or tune up the 5th string 2 frets. You could play the D tunes out of a D chord position with the 5th string tuned up two frets but it is much simpler (and better sounding IMHO) to use a C or double C tuning, capoed up two frets (including the 5th string). If you don't have a capo, you can tune up all the strings two frets.
Don't be afraid of learning different tunings. There are plenty of instructions online about how to do it. I suppose there are chord charts for the different tunings but full chords are not used much on OT banjo, if that is the style you're playing.
And I heartily agree, OT Jam is a fantastic resource, I played a bunch of D tunes just before getting on BHO.

"Groundhogpeggy" over at the fiddle hangout has had the great idea of starting a "virtual fiddle festival", where folks are going to be learning one tune a month off the old-time jam site to then post for others to hear (click the link to learn more). I've also started a thread in the sound-off forum here for us banjoists to post our versions.

I gotta' tell ya'.....my 14 year old son and I were using the tracks to play together last night as he was reading the chord changes and jamming along on the guitar and I was selecting tunes I know and can competently play. I love the site and really appreciate those that have concocted this. Thanks.

I am now only listening to your, I think it's 80 tunes, over and over on my Ipod. I love them and can't get enough. Did send you a few of messages through your website contact page asking for TAB but haven't received any response as yet. Perhaps you have been away or busy. Jack is right. The recordings are definitely great for jamming as intended, but I think they also stand alone as legit, enjoyable Old Time music performances. Scratchy and rhythmic fiddling, solid, Spartan guitar work, and complimentary banjo playing. Count me in as someone who occasionally stops by just to listen. Keep 'em comin'

A couple announcements:
1 - "Georgia Railroad" was recently added to the site, and with that Volume 5 is now available for lifetime members to download. If you're a lifetime member and you didn't receive an email with the link to download the new volume, please contact me through the contact page on the site.
2 - The old-time jam now has a t-shirt (see design below - click the link for more info). The shirt will also be this month's prize for the Virtual Fiddle Festival drawing this month (randomly drawn amongst all who enter). The tune right now is Mississippi Sawyer, and the submission deadline March 15. So get crackin!

Thanks for posting this again. I can see this site as a great way to acquaint other musicians with Old-Time music. I play occasionally with a group that is mainly focused on Bluegrass and Folk music. I've been working on getting more OT tunes into the mix. Now with your site we've got a great reference point to get folks familiar with these tunes. I think the page you have on "What is Old Time Music" will further help those not familiar with OT get the mind-set of what playing this style of music is all about. I'll be signing on for the Lifetime Membership!
