When I play it sounds like my high D string is pinging. It doesn't matter where I play up or down the neck it pings. I don't notice it when played open, so could the neck be twisted ?
It's not a pick thang as I get the same problem pickless (but not as strong). The harder I pick, the stronger the ping.
So I need help to find why is this happening.

Just a guess but it could be the slot in your bridge or perhaps the action is a little low.

Every once in a while when the weather is extreme ( I live in Northern Ca) I start to get the pinging on my high D. When everything settles a bit...it goes away. In my case, It's just one of my 5 strings many mysteries.

I've had a somewhat similar problem with some weird overtones from the 5th string. I took a tiny piece of tyvek--the stuff that FedEx and the USPO use for their envelopes--and put it in the pip grove. That wasn't enough, so I did the same with the bridge slot. It worked. Learned that right here on the good ol' BHO ![]()

Pinging or buzzing? If it's buzzing a bit, make sure your bridge is centered so the strings aren't too close to the edge of the fretboard -- the string might be sitting on the edge of the frets.

Is the head looser than normal? Maybe tighten it up a bit to raise the action a hair to see if that helps.

Here's another possibility: In C tuning, I was getting a sympathetic sound (pinging?) from the high D string, while picking the 4th string. After a lot of head scratching, I noticed that the little piece of spaghetti tubing for the 5th string tuner was out of place, i.e. not touching the neck, which I thought it was just there to protect. After repositioning the tubing, the problem went away. May be more to that little piece than we think.
