Wow. Terrible.

Here is a update I just read:

Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base.

The Army says one shooter has been killed and two others apprehended on Thursday in the shooting and all are U.S. soldiers.

Base is still on lockdown, last I heard. Might be clearing it shortly. Security will be high for a while. (I am less than 30 miles away. Some of the wounded have been brought to a local hospital. There is still a lot of turmoil right now. Everybody is on pins and needles.)

Don't let it eat at you, Hugh. "Worrying is paying the devil a debt before it is due"...

I am praying that your family members are all A-OK.

Or...we can find out more about the attack and if it's related to a cell in the US and we can get info to get the rest of the bad guys.

Thank you,

Condolenses to all included. Must be terrible having family in areas where theese kinds of things happen.

Some poor stressed-out guy does a terrible thing and causes a lot of misery. That is a sad thing for all parts.

I'm real stumped on this one. my daughter was a captain in the Army and is now in the reserves. The loyalty to each other is so high in everyone I met over the years of ROTC and active duty. Sure there were slackers and idiot officers but I wouldnt say that was the norm. If push came to shove she's have their backs also.
My hope is that this is just a guy that snapped and no more. Else, God help any Muslim in the US military. But this guy threw so many flags I dont know why they didnt Section 8 him long ago.

Hugh, I'm thankful all is well on your end.

All good here. We heard from them late last night. They were pretty close to where it was and it took some time to get in touch. I still have not heard from my coworker yet. He should be in around 8am central.

It is a tragedy and a shock. However, we can take pride in the reaction of fellow soldiers (offering immediate first aid) and the first responders, who put a stop to the carnage. I'm told the first responder who took down the berserk Maj. was a woman officer. She was wounded (now stable and expected to recover) but still stopped the shooter. I see her as heroic. This shapes up as a pretty good argument for the acceptability of using women in combat.

I use to live just outside of Fort Hood, well the booming area was right behind the house. My husband and I have both been civilian employees there. Fort Hood has always been a high crime area of soldier killing soldier. Just not in the size. The last summer I was there, they had like 4 murders on base.

Many people will turn this into an indictment of our system. Many people will see it as a terroristic assault, and a failure of how we do things.

I see it more like AD3 sees it... we had a whacko go off the deep end, and thankfully, a lot of good people used their training and compassion and helped others by stopping the threat, aiding the injured and dying and by protecting other people from getting injured or killed. It is/was a terrible and trying situation, and a lot of good people stepped up to lessen the effects on others. Job well done.

I think this mostly needs prayers , assistance and blood dontations...

Scott, I'm very happy things worked out for you and yours, I hope your friend is safe.

The news has reported the shooter on the morning of the shooting gave away his things, copies of the Koran and was dressed in trad. Muslim chothes. It's also been reported the shooter shouted, "God is good!" in Arabic before he opened fire.

Thank you,
"Count" Hugh

Amazing. I saw on the Orlando news this morning that Ft. Hood is bigger than Seminole County.

Spent a lot of time on that base. Many friends and colleagues located there. None of them were involved but my thoughts and prayers are definitely with those involved.

Randy, Ft. Hood covers probably over 4 countys in TX, and TX has big countys. It is just not Army, all our arm forces train there, plus the Royal Airforce, and the Austrialian Military. It is a place to really get to know alot of different people and cultures.
