Hey there,

I'm lookin' for a folks to jam with in the Evansville area. I really don't care what your level of experience is. I've been playing for so long by myself, it might take me a little while to get used to playing with other people.

The only folks I know around here are my stepsons. One is into alternative rock and the other is into country music. I try to jam with them, but it winds up with two of us listening while one plays.

I have run into some bluegrass pickers down here, and an Irish session, but no OT.

My primary instrument is fiddle. But I also play clawhammer, mandolin, fingerstyle guitar, and some other instruments.

So, if anyone's interested I'd love to hear from ya. I've even got a place where we can meet.

I'm in a similar position here in Fort Wayne. There was no old-time community that I could find when I moved here a year ago from Alabama, but I have started a jam at my house on Sunday afternoons. To date, we have had two fiddle players show up, two clawhammer banjo players, some guitars players, and two hammered dulcimer players, and a standup bass. Some of these folks have driven in from Ohio. One of the fiddle players drove an hour and 20 minutes from Goshen.
I think that is the key to having successful jams is finding old-time fiddle players, which I am still trying to do. Please add me as a friend as I would like to hear of your progress. Best of luck.

Hi Allendale, I am originally from Evansville and thought you might be interested in Carson Lowery's, Country /Old Time/ Bluegrass Pickin and Singin held at the Civic Center. He usually posts the time and date in the Courier&Press before the meeting. It is free and he welcomes everyone. He is a great guy and I had the pleasure of being his banjo player for a while. You would be very welcome and would enjoy it I believe. If I was still living there I would be there myself.

The best banjo in the world is the one you are satisfied with!

fretlessinfortwayne, Ialready okay'd you. Too bad you live so far away. Fiddle is my primary instrument. Then clawhammer banjo, and after that mandolin and fingerstyle guitar. I've also got a hammered dulcimer I never have time to play. So All I need is at least one clawhammer player or a guitarist to get started. If another fiddler shows up, I'd be happy to back her/him part of the time.

You might contact the Vincennes contra dancers, who are likely to know of musicians in the area. They have a site here:
