I don't know why I am compelled to post this but I just figured I would. So I just realized for the first time since getting a banjo I have done nothing but play it all day. I have pretty much played for the past 6 hours only taking occasional bathroom and food breaks. I bought this darn thing back in January when I started to learn bluegrass (thats all I knew). I've been working on clawhammer for about a month now and have taken 2 private lessons. The only tunes I've currently got under my belt are barlow knife and cluck old hen but I'm having a ball. Just fooling around and being immersed in the music... I love it. No real substance to this post but I just thought I'd share.
Keep on rockin

I'm currently working on Old Cluck Hen, the Murphy Method version. It is fun to play, and I'm really working on getting the right rhythm. I'm just starting out too!
Wish me luck!

what is it steve martin said, "Obsession is a great substitute for talent." My ass is bigger than it was a year ago when i started playing, and unless im careful it will be larger in another year...

Yep, I can relate completely. My wife works every other weekend, and you wouldn't beleive how many times she has come home on a Saturday afternoon and I am still sittin' in the same spot with my banjer on my knee.

What is it with the banjo? I swear that thing makes time just speed by.

The sound takes you back to a simpler time when things didn't go by so fast. That's why you can play for hours...

I myself have fallen victim to the strange and wonderful banjo time warp. Why just yesterday, I was...wait a minute was that 2 days ago? Why do my legs hurt so much? Why am I still in this chair? Why is my hand cramped around the neck of this banjo? Why am I asking you?
Keepin my skillet good and greasy all the time!

Have to agree--it is just plain fun to play the banjo. I've played all my life and no matter what else I did==I always come back to just playing the banjo.
Best wishes,

If you suspect you need a new banjo--you do. Trust your musical instincts. If a banjo calls to you to buy it, don''t fight destiny. It was meant to be. :)
