I have a Samick Artist Series Edition 5 string banjo. That is all I know about it. There isn't any other identifying marks. I was wondering if you all knew anything about this banjo, if it is good, or if it sucks, etc. The only thing I don't like about it is that the 5th string tuner isn't geared, so I really have to crank it down and it is really sensitive.

Apart from the rather wordy discription by the Samick marketing machine, this banjo is really a basic entry level instrument. It is no better nor worse than many others in the price bracket. The 5th string tuner is real basic and really should be thrown away and a geared one installed if you can afford it.
There is not much to say about the Chinese made banjos other than you get what you pay for. Having said that, they are a reasonable beginner instrument.

Some of the Samick banjos had parts which were made by Gibson.

And the parts would be......Strings... Just so the idiot on ebay can use Gibson in the listing title. Like anyone looking for a Gibson would buy a Samick just because it came up when he searched on "Gibson".

I feel GoodTime is an entry level one, same as the Samick. If you are going to play bluegrass then you would want one that has a decent tonering, resonator, all geared tuners that has got a bit of weight in it. Look in the classified here, there is bound to be something that would suit.
